Today’s agenda: Pretending this Lego build is somehow relates to my research. Sure, it’s not writing, but I am justifying it as hands-on engagement with queer cultural production. A win on the dissertation front.

Current status: dissertation? Who she? I don’t know her.

Motivation? Presumed dead.

Me? Doomscrolling and eating snacks in bed.

I just woke up from a dream where the floor was lava.

Me: Babe, the floor is lava.

Husband: Not again. I’ll get you coffee, but you gotta get out of bed sometime.

Me: Fine…. Don’t forget the cream!

Channeled my inner Judy —poured a glass of rosé and sat down to write. Now I have a perfectly chilled wine and zero words (but lots of feelings).

Dissertation work has consisted mostly of me dramatically sighing while opening and closing the same document without making any changes.

A plus to the Blizzard in the Plains…. The weather takes it out of our dachshunds. Look at Linus, sleeping like an angel. Enjoying the calm before he wakes and resumes his role as the AIC (A**hole In Charge).

There’s a blizzard on the way, and as an introvert with a fully stocked pantry and provisions to last a month, I can finally live my dream of socializing exclusively with my couch.

With sleep gummies, valerian root tea, and a weighted blanket of miniature dachshunds, I’m basically staging an intervention for my insomnia—because clearly, it won’t take the hint.

Rereading a great story of resilience, while curled up in blanket with a side-eyeing, sassy dachshund (Linus). Protect the history, as it is about to be attacked!

Is “Taste” by Stanley Tucci a savory memoir of food and family—or just a side dish of celebrity anecdotes? Our book group couldn’t agree. Is there substance beneath the charm, or is it all just #parsley?

“Want to watch The Christmas Carol?”

Me: Ah, the 19th century—when holiday cheer meant Dickensian feasts for some, while factory workers, enslaved people, and women without property fought to carve out their own moments of joy amidst the struggle.

“So, yes?”

Me: Definitely!

With increased scrutiny around Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) language, it can be useful to adapt terms while staying committed to the values they represent. Here are some I’ve heard most recently. These words are not new, and neither is the work—let’s continue on with it! #DEI #education

#13. 15 years ago I was editing the layout proofs. So thankful for the New Museum on this collaboration between artists, curators, and educators. I just received an inquiry about the book (so sweet), and I found myself walking down memory lane. #nostaglia #education www.routledge.com/Rethinking-C...

#12. Defending my prospectus on queer performativity in early 20th-century Midwest Chautauquas—a topic few know and I must now sound like an expert. The irony? I’ll perform the absurdity of taking myself seriously (knowing it’s a bit of a show) while discussing performances of identity. #camp

#10. Pause your queer nonfiction research with some snarky machines. TJ Klune’s “In the Lives of Puppets” is a quirky, heart-filled #Pinocchio reimagining packed with love, adventure, and just enough chaos to reboot your spirit. Still research, right?—I deserve a little whimsy and some sassy robots!
