How she made her fortune. Verjuice. Well maybe. She certainly sells it and it’s the only brand I’ve seen readily available.

I remember you invited us to catch up when you were in Melbourne last year.
It was lovely to meet these genuine Bluesky aquaintances IRL and it seemed to legitimise the platform for me.
SM isn't a huge part of my life but it can have some positive outcomes.

With Pope as well it’s like a carry on movie. Ooh aah. #ashes.

Great thread… I feel it’s not just my relationship with social media that’s changed. It’s my relationship with the world.

Increasingly I grow closer to people of a similar mind, no matter how far away. No matter how few.

I love you my dear Bluesky friend!

Heading down the coast today to spend some time with friends near the beach. May end up with my feet in the sand and water. Might post a couple of pics but I think I need some fresh air. Thanks for indulging me. 😊🤞🦋

I’ve used it a lot to yell into the void. Including this thread tbh. I enjoyed that outlet. Thinking, thinking, thinking. It’s been part of my life for almost 20 years. So much positive stuff has come from it. Is the age of social media coming to an end? To be replaced by something else?

Now a lot of it tends to be brain rotting stuff. Memes that don’t make sense just to mess with your head. Ai videos purely for a reaction. Finding out some people aren’t who you thought they were. Good people leaving.

Sometimes it was to escape from real life. Sometimes it was to find out what was happening in the world. Sometimes it was to share a message. Sometimes it was to learn new things.

Then I came here. It can be fun sometimes but it is different from Pre Elon twitter.
Then I’m thinking, has the whole thing changed regardless of the platform? Why did I use social media at all?

Then he bought it. It took a little while for the changes to become apparent but eventually they did and not in a good way. I stayed for quite a while thinking I was part of the resistance but then the whole experience of it was not so much fun anymore.

Pre Elon twitter was such an interesting place. Totally different from FB. I learnt so much stuff. Followed so many interesting people of all sorts. Got to interact with people I never would have in real life. It gave me so many opportunities.

I joined Twitter in 2011 and didn’t really know what it was or how to use it at first. So I left that account dormant. I started again in 2014 with a new account and it was only after a couple of years that I worked out how to use it. Then it was fun.

I’m not quite sure exactly when the vibe changed to make it not so enjoyable. Maybe 2019? I don’t know.

I joined FB in 2007 when many in Australia joined. I enjoyed it for quite a few years, catching up with many people that I hadn’t seen in a long time and meeting new folks in online circles that I never would have met otherwise.

I think Jane may have left all social media. She will be missed. Such a voice of warmth and calm in trying times.

Oh no! When did Jane leave? What happened @davehooper.com. I know about the other guy. So disappointing.
I will so miss Jane.
