We need to have as many different perspectives as possible to understand our universe.

He/Him

My opinions are mine alone. I don't represent any entity or other person.
NASA forced the firing of fantastic JPL employee, Neela Rajendra today. And JPL hardly waited more than a few minutes to erase her from their records.
This timeline fucking sucks.

Because of rising costs and uncertainty regarding some of my contracts, I was unable to finish my office this past winter. So it’s currently in this state. Two weeks ago it was below 20 ºF in my office in the morning. Today the temperature reached 94 ºF. This summer is going to be fun.

I'm afraid your cost to get a new-to-you used vehicle is going back up after falling for most of the past two years.

It's still low compared to the wildness of post-covid-shutdown, but it's going to start climbing again as these tariff-cum-taxes start hitting.

A quick clip of our small town's Hands Off demonstration. My estimate is that we had about 2500 people. That is confirmation-biased in agreement with some other random person's guess. It was one of the largest I've seen here.

It was a good crowd.

A friend of mine had this parasol at our local protest. The town is about 70,000 people, and we had about 2500-3000 people at the protest.

My friend and her partner insisted I use the hashtag, #EVHero for this. They called me about 30 minutes from home to ask if I would meet them partway because they'd skipped a charging session and run low on charge. I took the Lightning out to give them a quick bump of energy to get them home.

I haven't seen this out there yet. The NASA administration has created an ideas form for how to make NASA more efficient.

I would say fire the administration.

I reacted the url because I don't know if it's personalized and I don't want the source to be outed.

Holy fuck. It's not just the sea of red, it's the magnitudes.
Health insurance and consumer staples are up, of course, because investors know they can charge whatever they like and people have to pay.

I'm afraid to look at my 401(k) value. Hope we can survive this with enough of it intact.

The administration is entirely incompetent. And yet, we lost our country to them. Money can buy a lot. It can't buy competence, but it can buy a whole lot of politicians.

And yet he was more intelligent and exhibited a better grasp of democracy and humanity in the 25th hour than any republican of the recent era (since about 1972, IMO).

It's slowing down my connection, but whatever.

Cory Booker is doing what should have been done from the beginning. At least we're making progress.

Also a hearty F-U to anyone who whines that this isn't enough. Go elsewhere with your perfectionism. That helped enabl the disaster we're facing.

Whelp, isn't this fun?
USAID's infiltrators cancelled everything good coming from the agency, so NASA's SERVIR program has been canceled.

Visited one of the most beautiful places on Earth: Canyonlands National Park in Utah.

Some burrowing animal chewed the trunk of my young cherry tree off of its roots.

By the way, this is a map of our travels. Some trips are missing because I forgot to put them in when we got home.
March 27, 2025 at 4:14 AM
Is it cost?
Compare the total cost of ownership (TCO) of an EV & a similarly-capable (often otherwise identical) ICE car, the TCO is less for the EV after three to five years of ownership. In this set of simulations, 95% of the time the EV is cheaper. Especially if you can charge at home.

If you live in the US, you likely live within 50 miles of a fast charger. You very likely don't drive any routes that put you farther than 100 miles from a fast charger. And there's only a tiny portion of the northern parts of the midwest that only have one fast charger within 200 miles.

We get ~255 cm snow "normally" on the mountain. This year we're about 125 cm < normal. We got a decent snow last night.
I usually "plow" our 1/4 mile driveway with our tractor. That takes 1-2 hours.
I put a plow on the Lightning yesterday. Took 20 minutes. "You can't drive an EV in the snow." HaHaHa

And prepending vs appending is also different, both without the fucking ai summary.

Searching for "constitutional amendment" vs "constitutional amendment -ai"

Doing a search for "what the actual" vs "what the actual -ai" gives slightly different results.

I wasn't vaccinated (hippy antivax parents). I had measles and complications. It was horrible. My parents were also anti-hospital so I didn't even get basic care. I don't know how I survived--DO NOT USE ME AS YOUR FUCKING ANECDOTE.

Get your fucking vaccine.

The House’s weird-ass budget bill included this gem, which basically has redefined the rest of the year to be a single day.

I say we work our 8 hours and call it a day.

This flag hangs on the exterior wall of our home. Yesterday someone came out to do some work. Before introducing themselves, they said, “Thanks for the flag. We don’t often get to see good things like that out here.”

The “little” things matter a lot to people.

Do more good more publicly.
