Native has a higher performance potential but also often lower floor these days. A lot of devs have opted to just make some efforts to make Proton run easier/better on the Windows build rather than maintain a separate native build.

Exactly how I felt watching it. I hope they were just oversimplifying but as you say they absolutely must not on an educational channel. I already fell out of love after they started chasing ridiculous hypothetical scenarios instead of real scientific videos but this was the nail in the coffin.
