watching the UKs green party elect an actual unafraid leftist into leadership and see party membership double in under a month is once again endless proof that if you stand up for leftist causes and treat the electorate like adults, you’ll win people over easily

I am fascinated by how ubi has welded the aesthetics of politics in its games and marketing for decades, but always been profoundly cowardly about engaging with them. Political aspartame.
SCOOP: Last year, Ubisoft cancelled an Assassin's Creed game set during Reconstruction. Was to feature a Black Assassin who, among other things, fought the rise of the Klan

Sources: Leadership nixed it over concerns re: U.S. political climate, backlash to Yasuke

The plot of the next Simpsons movie should be the kids at Springfield Elementary digging up a time capsule that was buried 40 years ago and realizing they're the same children who buried it because their world hasn't aged in 4 decades.

feels like yet again time to mention that the *videogames* industry (that's a creative industry, which people do creative degrees in) brings in more than twice the amount to the British economy as the fishing and steel industries *combined*
I cannot understand what these people think the purpose of human life is?

It is *not* "pursue joy, deal justly, love well, try to understand as much and see as much of this beautiful world and of the deepness, richness and variety of human culture and experience as you can before you die"?
How is this repeatedly made into a policy issue - by *all* parties - when the blunt fact of the matter is that grown adults who are obliged to pay for their own education, and relentlessly pursued to repay their loans, should be able to study whatever the fuck they want.

It's truly embarrassing the sheer number of Americans who sincerely believe the US is devolving into a fascist dictatorship "to distract from the Epstein Files". A 5 year old child has a better understanding of how the world works.

The CEO of Bluesky is craven and evil. The only people that build these platforms are infected with the self-reproducing moral rot of capitalism. They have no sense of duty or stewardship. They see their monetary reward as a cleansing justification for their actions.

The US is a white supremacist nation at its core, and these Nazis were always here, everywhere. In every city, county, and state. The difference is that they were mostly quiet about it. Now they're wearing it on their sleeve and seeing if they can get away with it.

Trump now saying that unless American Tech Oligarchs are exempt from tax and legislation, he'll impose very high tariffs on the EU is just the entirely predictable outcome of the EU leadership caving to a trade deal with him. Hope they'll cancel the deal and simply let him take the hit himself.

I had a book idea about free speech in 2015 but it fell apart when I looked into the case studies of left-wing "overreach" and realised it was basically a moral panic based on exaggerations, distortions, outlier cases and online dust-ups. There were egregious examples but no widespread crisis.

It is wild that Charlie Kirk of all things is becoming *the* litmus test.

Even just talking about the event publicly without a sufficient supply of sackcloth and ashes is cast as "promoting political violence." I haven't seen this kind of mandatory performance of allegiance and piety since 9/11.

I think, every so often, about how the student protesters in South Korea figured out there was a finite supply of tear gas, and then staged retreating marches that caused police to burn off most of it, before the big "bring your auntie and kids" marches that ultimately toppled the dictatorship.
