sometimes if you’re a good person your faith is what helps you be a better person

sometimes if you’re a bad person your faith makes you a worse person

but not always and not exclusively and the same spectrum exists across belief systems. the problem is much more often about power than gods

my philosophy about Catholicism - as a queer person and a woman and just like a person who thinks a lot about systems of power in this mess of a country in which I live - is that no institution gets better if all the good people leave, AND ALSO no one ever has to stay in a place they were harmed
