There’s more I could talk about in High on Life. A rudimentary upgrade system for your Gatlians, the celebrity cameos, the endless references to better games, the broken and cluttered HUD navigational system, the unearned cloying ending. But High on Life is so exhaustingly glib and mechanically unremarkable that to engage with it critically is to already have lost the game of chicken it’s playing with you.

Generally find the music in Steven Universe to be fine enough but It’s Over, Isn’t It is such a huge artistic flex from Sugar and Magno, I can’t believe it’s just casually nestled in there.

There’s a pervasive clumsiness to Silent Hill f that I can’t quite place between enthusiastic and woefully misguided, the exact wrong place to land when dealing with the subject matter it chooses to pursue.

It is a fundamentally incorrect read on the part of the game, reeking of a design doc that wants the accolades of adult storytelling without sacrificing the adolescent impulse to have every girl imagined also be equipped with a perfect dodge. Silent Hill f’s closest comparison point being Zach Snyder’s Suckerpunch should have given someone, somewhere pause.
