I make chunks of the internet, and I like some stuff. Rest assured I'm not famous in any meaningful way.

*incoherent noises*

This is both such a predictable heel turn (and it's impressive that he had further to turn that way!) and a new level of awful child-manipulation.

Bruce Schneier, on AI and the corporate capture of knowledge:

"The question is not simply whether copyright law applies to AI. It is why the law appears to operate so differently depending on who is […]

Anyhow, Wikipedia is totally one of the best things on the Internet. It is a wonder of the world. Anil is correct when he says those of us who’ve supported it over the years need to take a deep breath and not let the fascist bastards grind us down. Anyone who hates truth is an enemy.

The worst kind of open source maintainer is the one who is “too busy to merge PRs into their project” but is also unwilling to find another maintainer to take it over.

I’m trying to decide if I should fork overmind right now; I really don’t want to, but I also need features that *were merged* […]

Hey, shoppers, it’s your dedicated plumber/janitor/carpenter/butler here, letting you know that there will be some downtime this weekend — hopefully brief! — while I upgrade a component of the shop.

In an ideal world, this will be very short. Fingers crossed!

I upgraded my work computer to macOS Tahoe and (as @bitprophet may find hilarious) it has inspired me to be pretty much indifferent to upgrading my personal laptop similarly.

On the consequences of rejecting “Defund the Police”

https://www.hamiltonnolan.com/p/the-consequences-of-rejecting-defund

I agree with this nearly across the board; by never accepting the need to reduce police power and armament, the “very good Liberals” of the Democrat party have handed a […]

/4 I am trying to be patient and empathetic with people who don’t participate because they are afraid or already carrying too much.

But I have contempt for the “look at these people talking about trying, I will sneer at them“ people who contribute nothing to anything or anybody.

A thing I have come to wonder since moving to #seattle: why is this one hedge-fund manager so obsessed with kids' genitals, and why is that allowed to dominate all of the state's politics?

Reading over my old blog entries as I do some much needed cleanup work on the older posts is mostly excellent, but seeing the links to the blogs of ex-friends and lapsed social ties is a melancholy experience.

There are people in here that I have lost as friends, and that still hurts every day.

I just had my first religious door to door proselytizers in over 20 years! A very nice family with their young daughter with them, but … nope, wrong house, friends.

I’ll be the first to admit that my HTML and CSS skills are far short of “good” but with the help of an LLM and some work on my own to shape it how I wanted, I’m really happy with the redesign of https://offby1.website/

I commissioned some custom pixel art a few years ago, and completely failed […]

I don’t feel optimistic about 2026, but the people in my life are straight up delights.

To my Python friends, you spark my mind and give me a reason to keep thinking.

To my hockey friends, you are a comforting red goal light.

To my family, those who are left, I gotchu and you gotme.
