Just off a call with an important reminder: We like to look at the history of Germany to explain our current situation. We need to thoroughly look at our OWN history. That's how we got here!

They even redacted the word "young" many times. You can tell by context - before the word "girl" - and the number of redacted letters. Young would no more identify a victim than the word girl. But it would indicate underage, which makes sex a crime with no statute of limitations.

A lot more people should know about the bravery Marimar Martinez displayed in the midst of Chicago’s occupation and the murder of two observers in MSP. They tried to kill her, shooting her 5 times, and it’s a miracle she’s alive to push for transparency like this after being persecuted by the DOJ.

The power of the people works — but our communities need safety. We call on Congress to demand ICE and Border Patrol leave Minneapolis now.

Governor's can't arrest people, y'all. Prosecutors are elected in Minnesota & they operate independently. The state police can investigate, but again, that's an independent process not under the governor's direct control. Stop the "Do something" rhetoric. It's not helpful. Minnesota will investigate

Remember those deranged psycho movies u thought the villain was laughably evil?

When it's heavily armed psychos making money off grabbing any human off the street, terrorizing, assaulting, torturing, kidnapping, disappearing, killing us, @ work, school, breakfast or in our own homes, it's not funny
ICE Agent asked why he's taking pictures of a legal observer's car, replies "Cuz we have a nice database and now you're considered a domestic terrorist. So have fun with that!!" So if you film ICE Fascist behavior you go on to a Domestic Terrorist list - how about them apples!!! #ChuckandJim

This story really gets at a fundamental misunderstanding about ICE that I’m seeing outside of Minnesota.

Folks think that ICE could terrorize undocumented immigrants and that it wouldn’t affect the broader community.

But of course it does. The very fabric of social life is unraveling.
I met an absolutely lovely academic who asked whether my department back home is affected by ICE -- a question dramatizing how little info is getting out.

For the record, the small example I chose:

My dept has a carpool to pick up grad students of color who can't safely commute to campus alone.

Crawling with ICE - arresting legal immigrants showing up for court appearances.

I asked one officer who they are prioritizing. His answer: everyone.

I need to share with you what I saw.

Sunday, at least 7 ICE agents stormed a house and took an elderly man out into the freezing cold, wearing only his underwear and a blanket.

He was a member of the Hmong community, which came to the area from Laos in the 1970s after siding with the US in the Vietnam War.
