The current Supreme Court has forfeited all legitimacy.

Democrats (and everyone) need to address that reality.

John Roberts > Roger Taney.

Court needs to expand. And have fixed terms—like *every* other supreme court in developed world. And have ethics rules, like all normal organizations.

@democrats.org Why act as if we are dealing with a sane President or GOP? The President is deranged. Why are you not saying that every day? What U.S. president says that American cities should be military training grounds? Stop normalizing this insanity. Call it out day after day.

I guess America First means sending $20 billion to bail out your friend in Argentina?

Democrats, you need to go to town on this.

Trump set to bail out Argentina, irking some in ‘America First’ camp
The Trump administration is set to provide a $20 billion financial lifeline to Argentina, a move that has sparked controversy among some of his supporters.

Stunned that the NYTimes critic and many commenters seem to think that the movie One Battle After Another is great and even profound. It’s shallow, long, and boring. And it has nothing to say politically unless you’re nostalgic for the Weather Underground. Disheartening if people like this.

@mmasnick.bsky.social Listened to your pod with Eric Goldman. As a lawyer and parent of kids who grew up on devices, I was disappointed. Your questions were flimsy, and you let him offer up weak arguments unchallenged. You did not make him engage with the best version of the view he opposes. Weak.

@lulugn.bsky.social Why do you ask @gallego.senate.gov if the DEMS are going to shut down the govt??? Such a misleading question. Repeat after me: The GOP controls BOTH houses of Congress. It’s their budget to pass. Ruben, please correct that question next time.

@weeklyshowpodcast.bsky.social I think Jon is a ridiculously nonchalant and dismissive about how extreme the President’s actions are. Yes, Jon, the Constitution should not allow all this. Doesn’t make it right or normal. He is abusing power in an unprecedented way and GOP allowing it. It’s okay?

@politico.com, don't you have journalistic standards requiring you to include the truth in your articles and posts? Andrew Howard "reports" the false allegation that the J6Com destroyed evidence. That is false. It's available at bit.ly/3P3J2Qd. Why not mention that? Just terrible reporting.

I'm looking for tips on how to use Bluesky. E.g., are hashtags a think here, like on X, or not so much?

Wait, this is good! If MAGA is on board with getting rid of the Electoral College, let's go with that, right?

(Does Trump actually not understand the Electoral College? I don't think he is that stupid. I just think he thinks his followers are that stupid.)

1. As they say, @bsky.app has the juice. Over the last several weeks, we at @tpm.bsky.social gained a lot of followers, some very familiar with TPM. Some less so. For those less familiar with TPM, here’s what we’re all about, a thread. (with a little reward at the very end)

Interesting point. This did not occur to me, but the timing is right. This was one step too far for President Biden.

I may not be up on all of @bsky.app features. To me as a formerly light user of X, it seems quite similar. I would like Bsky not to be a left-leaning bubble, but a place where people can share and debate ideas and policy. Are there tools/policies in Bluesky that make this more likely than on X?

Really, @nytimes.com. "Bravado" is the word your headline writers chose for Kash Patel? Sometimes the Times just blows my mind. www.nytimes.com/2024/12/01/u...
Kash Patel Would Bring Bravado and Baggage to F.B.I. Role
President-elect Donald J. Trump’s choice to run the F.B.I. has a record in and out of government that is likely to raise questions during his Senate confirmation hearings.

All the other very serious issues with Kash Patel aside (e.g., that he is a proven liar who in one high-profile episode, endangered the lives of our soliders: www.theatlantic.com/magazine/arc...), how about the more basic fact that he has no qualifications whatsoever to run the FBI?

Summary of John Ganz from the Nation and Max Kiefel in the Baffler (links below in the comment):

The Democratic Party is a "vision-starved" blob of overpaid consultants who are overreliant on polling, and lacks meaningful connections with the people it purports to represent.
