#HistNursing Advent day 5. These are possibly my favourite photos showing the personality of the nurses. The nurses were sent at short notice to German held Samoa in August 1914 - possibly 1st nurses to serve in war. They all went on to serve in Europe for rest of war. Probable measles TPR chart

Advent day 3. #HistNursing - I flew up country in 2021 to look at the long lost nurse training archives in Palmerston North. The huge bound volume contained all the student details but it was so water damaged I couldn’t use - long forgotten in storage

Exploration of the Marquette Ship torpedoed 23 October 1915. I’ve watched many time& it still gets me. we sailed over the wreck- heartbreaking as we threw flowers & poppies in the water & sailed away to 7 blasts on the horn. Then the Dardanelles at dawn youtu.be/tK-d6i9hPy8🇳🇿#HistNursingsing

23 October 1915 the TS Marquette was torpedoed off Salonika. On board was No 1 NZSH. 10 NZANS lost their lives, 22 NZEF & 135 others. We remember them today nzhistory.govt.nz/media/video/ma… Marquette Great War Story | NZ History they are buried at Mikra Thessaloniki or in ocean😢🇳�#HistNursingng

The day job has been very full on this semester & this was the end of a very intensive block course looking at family & community health in NZ with a cohort of great health professionals from a range of disciplines - it’s a good feeling when months of planning comes together in a course. #academic

Finally have be granted a small amount of research funds to close the loop in my #HistNursing research to obtain death certificates on the 100 or so WW1 nurses who died prematurely post service to connect dots between service, illness and death. #NZANS #research #nursinghistory

I’m always fascinated when I see information relating to women overcoming societal expectations - this memorial rock in Aoraki Mt Cook National park to the 1st female who ascended Mt Coon says it all! A perfect day out adventuring in the remote area - no where near Freda’s scale of accomplishment 🗻🇳🇿

A bit of family history- this is my dad 14yr in 1944 In wartime Devon. He went from boys home to work in service aged 14, he was the ‘boy’ in a grand house- his jobs included lighting the fires, shining shoes, stirring the clotted cream & helping the garden. Lady Northcote let him in her library

Here it is for in action - intersecting my 2 passions aromatics were uses in the First World War for infections - the Australians used teatree, a powerful antiseptic and the French used lavender impregnated into spagnum moss for wounds

I buy a lot of my work clothes at my local hospice shop where gifted clothes are carefully curated - labelled stuff & other quality items. 💯 goes to provide hospice care. This red coat is a perfect addition to winter work when I have a day of serious activities & public speaking. #hospice #vegan
