The eastern shore of Lake Michigan - between South and Grand Haven - is loaded with mountain ranges of ice 😱

I think these are the only proper lenticular clouds I've ever seen, let alone photographed. These were above the Canadian Rockies in Banff

Mildly interesting: Despite temps staying below freezing since the last big snow on 1/24-1/25, the pile of snow that had accumulated on my patio table has slowly sublimated away from the top and bottom - thanks the slats in the table's surface - despite being in shadow all day long.

Three people might find this cool, but I stumbled across a wind rose report that documents the average wind speed and direction (as measured between 1970-2025) at O'Hare Airport (Chicago's official weather reporting station)

A quick skim above a very frozen & snow-covered South branch of the Chicago River this afternoon. This view will transform quite a bit once “The 78” is developed.

Popped down to Jackson Park to check out the Obama Presidential Center in the snow. Unexpectedly, panels of concrete letters - from a portion of Obama's 2015 "You Are America" speech in Selma - were being installed. The winter palette came together exactly as I envisioned.

Here's a closer look at the stepped back sections of the tower. The crane still has one more jump. By my count, it looks like they've poured 68 of 73 floors. Atop that will be another ~45' for the mechanical penthouse and architectural crown.

400 Lake Shore is making its mark on the skyline. #Chicago is still sub-freezing and the mouth of the river is choked with jagged sheets of ice.

Bonvi-not gonna work here anymore, anyway.

Pulled an old photo from my archives for a future project and gave it the flip-it-and-reverse-it (then blend it) treatment // #Chicago

This bubble froze within seconds of @amyulo.bsky.social blowing it and moving out of frame. This isn’t sped up

Still chasing that high from 2019 when the air temperature, not windchill, was -22°. That morning was *wild* at the lakefront. Felt like we were on an iceberg in the arctic

the purple lines are break walls that trap ice and slow water flow. but you can see on the view from skydeck that ice is flowing out with the NE winds.

Flying over and above Lake Michigan’s frozen, fractured, and steaming surface.

A drone's eye view the frozen, cracked surface of @lakemichigan13.bsky.social. Breaths of sea smoke rise from areas of open water to create a low veil of steam atop the ice

Good morning from the #Chicago lakefront where the air temperature was -4° and the windchill hovered around -32° as measured by my Kestrel weather meter.

While not exactly the municipal device, these tessellated Y-shaped tiles in Wolf Point East’s lobby certainly allude to it

Looks like the backup is in the air

And I was solidly locked onto the roof via a full-body harness and this chonky "clip" that's bigger than my hand.

A precarious perch. Sound on to hear the wind at 800’ above the street.

Totally random, but I screen grabbed this the other day from IG. It was like the 3rd/4th slide

It's playoff eve in Chicago! Blue hour looked great just before the snow moved in // #BearDown
