I guess there's also the fact that Half-Life Alyx was announced in November and came out in March (and the new Steam hardware is scheduled for "early 2026", which could also be March, so it'd make for a similar announcement-to-release period).

27th anniversary of original Half-Life + exactly a week since the Steam hardware announcements (it's likely they'd want to pair new hardware and software, but also not have something as big as HL3 totally overshadow the hardware news if they did it at the same time).
