England seemed to him to be nothing but horrors and misery now. The very shapes of the trees were like frozen screams.

Cate Le Bon was sensational at a sold out Barbican Centre this evening. Her band were like shape-shifters, swapping instruments literally during songs whilst Cate was the glue holding everything together. Fabulous.

It's chilly this morning. Spoke to a farmer on my way to work & told him that I keep hearing tubular bells. 'Don't worry, son, that's just my cold field'.

Why are so many young men in the prime of their lives choosing to look like this in the year of our Lord 2025? Moustaches, mullets & tank tops. Is this just a Reading thing or have they lost all sense of style all across the UK.

PS I liked Steve Wright, I just wouldn't want to look like him.

24. Sister Nancy - One Two (1982)

One of very few women that were part of the nascent dancehall reggae scene, Sister Nancy is a legend. Featuring Sly & Robbie with Ansel Collins, this is full of sweet grooves with Nancy's funny & clever lyrics. You all know Bam Bam but all tracks great.

Delighted to see the Rosalia album at number 4 in the UK album charts. It's not an easy listen. A 2025 version of Scott 4. The kids are alright.

25. Necronomicon - Tips Zum Selbstmord (1972)

A German album released in 1972, the title translates to 'How To Commit Suicide'. Recorded on a two-track recorder, this an absolutely brutal slab of psych/proto-metal. Ambitious but completely mental. For fans of Hawkwind, Dark & Groundhogs.

I've changed the water filter on my record cleaner. This is how much yuck comes out of about 25 LPs, some of which were brand new.

This is well worth a few minutes of your time.
I stumbled across this and thought of you…it’s basically a cover version of Paranoid but with the lyrics changed to tell the story of Hound of the Baskervilles. Warning: video contains scary dog…🤣

I've been listening to this yet again. It's a perfect comfort blanket. I love that so many well-known actors are involved.

Mark Bonnar
Kevin Whately
Stephen Tompkinson
George Cole
Imogen Stubbs
Joan Sims
Peter Vaughan
Loads more

I doubt that they needed the money, just loved the work.

I have made a start with my #VinylSanta shopping, but one of the LPs is so good that I am probably going to have to keep it.*

* Nah, I wouldn't do that. It's Christmas.

My Dad has taken my son to Cardiff to watch the Wales v Japan rugby match and Wales won with a last minute penalty kick! Wales have lost their last 10 games, so this is a miracle. So happy for them. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

I love singing along to my favourite songs. The ones that are too difficult for my extremely limited range are Crosby, Stills & Nash and Steely Dan. Those guys were obviously using performance enhancing drugs just like the cyclists of the future.

#NowPlaying I was alerted to the existence of this album only last week by @maryepworth.bsky.social It is a beast of a record. Released in Czechoslovakia in 1972 and immediately banned by the authorities, it is a lost masterpiece. Think King Crimson or Gong but far, far funkier. Please listen.

26. Kathy McCord - Kathy McCord (1970)

Recorded while she was still in her teens, this is an amazing album. Folky but fried in places. Her voice is absolutely divine & the songs are very good indeed. She even manages to pull off a cover of She's Leaving Home sung in the first person.

#NowPlaying A lovely recommendation from @andrewmale.bsky.social arrived today from @lookingforthemagic.bsky.social via @brighterdayvinyl.bsky.social

A 1972 German prog-folk album that just floats along beautifully. Some primitive synth action & a woman with a great voice top things off nicely.

Wes Streeting as PM has the same appeal as an a capella Ian Brown solo album.

Further signs that I am getting old; I have permanently switched from BBC Radio 6 to Radio 3 in the morning and I only have 3 of Rough Trade's top 100 albums of the year.

27. The Beach Boys - Holland (1973)

I didn't have the 7" single that's part of this album for the first 2 months, so my perception is slightly skewed. Some of these songs are incredible. There are a couple of duff tracks, but for a band in such disarray, this is a strong release.

I'm always banging on about the LPs I've bought, but two of my best purchases this year have been these CD boxsets. Without doubt my two favourite bands when I was a young kid. Music as a comfort blanket is such an important resource to tap into in times of stress.
