Novlr is a writer-owned creative writing workspace built by writers, for writers, dedicated to helping you achieve your writing goals.
Without sharing what the event is, give the scenes to a reader, and let them guess what they think it is. How the respond to the scene will help you see which parts resonate with them, and which don't.

If you find yourself spending months on planning and world building, doing multiple courses, or waiting until your circumstances are just right, you might be stuck in a procrastination loop. If that sounds familiar, take a step back, ask yourself why you’re afraid, and just get writing! #amwriting

The goal is to show emotion and conflict through subtext, not exposition. Readers should be able to understand what the conversation was really about without it being overly stated.

But there’s nothing wrong with shouting about your love for your project. Don’t be afraid to talk about out it freely and often. If you love your ideas so will someone else, and that joy can be infectious and keep you motivated. #amwriting

Keep revising until they can guess. You'll learn a lot about how subtext can help develop a character, and about what readers will take away from they way you write them.

Your chosen reader should be able to build a clear picture of this unseen character purely through dialogue, tone, body language, and what is and isn’t said.

If your reader can't guess, don't reveal who the character is. Go back to your scene and revise based on your reader's feedback.
