Finished making the #shmup collection #pcengine #miniconsole. All (Japanese) pc-engine shoot'em-ups are on it with Japanese names, without missing characters. The font map I made to include the extra characters should be included in the next release of Project Chronos. #hudsonsoft #retrogaming

The GB flash cart could also be used with Pro Fighters without the GB slot, you'd use this adapter cart.

Managed to read parts of it and it seems the Pro Fighter models were counterfeited (maybe with better parts than the original ones?).

Momotarou Densetsu. The game that started the super successful (in Japan) franchise. #hudsonsoft used the Momotarou (peach boy) legend and made a game out of it. This #jrpg was released in 1987 and got many sequels on many systems as well as a lot of spin-off titles.

Binary Land. A puzzle game by #hudsonsoft for #famicom where you need to move 2 penguins to the goal. But... you control 1 penguin, the other moves in mirror direction. The first levels are easy, the maze is symmetric, but later there will be obstacles. Fun game!

Edited the font files of the #pcengine mini and added the missing characters to it. Still need to redo the katakana and hiragana, they are still a little off. And used the wrong coords for the "kai" kanji. @chriscovell.bsky.social thanks for spotting the problem :)

Ninja Hattori-kun. A side scrolling action game based on a famous manga of Fujiko Fujio (creator of Doraemon!). It was released in 1986 and was actually one of the best-selling games on the #famicom, selling about 1.5 million copies.

Challenger. Never heard of this game before I looked up #hudsonsoft #famicom games. According to Wikipedia it is an action-platformer released in 1985.

Smaller would be better as long as it is safe. But for me… set once and no need to look at it anymore and in this case there was enough space.

Been looking at ugly orange network cable for a while now. Finally decided to do something about it. Luckily I still had 1 empty tube going from the ceiling to the side of the room. Receiver and beamer in the ceiling cabinet. All possible connections coming out of the wall. #retrogaming #hometheater

Played around with the #analogue 3D and SummerCart64. Neighbour had some games already (and the summercart), I brought some of my games for him to borrow and finally tried Star Soldier Vanishing Earth which I got last year in Japan. Helped him set up library images on the 3D.

#analogue 3D arrived! But stuck at work and it's not actually for me. NA neighbour… who is a bit younger… therefor #n64, wanted to have it so I ordered it for him. Hopefully have time tonight for some Goldeneye and Viewpoint!

The colours on the inside of the booklet are sometimes ok… sometimes a little off. It also lost a bit of sharpness in the repro. It almost seems these things are caused by the type of paper. A type that absorbs the ink a bit more… causing the loss in detail and dullness in colour.
November 27, 2025 at 7:55 PM
The booklet. Material is different… less shiny. The colours a little darker as I mentioned earlier. You really notice it with the Hudson Soft logo/title… it should be dark blue but is almost black.
November 27, 2025 at 7:47 PM
Two photos of the white plastic. For me it just seems cheap when I look at the white plastic of the repro… not sure if that is what others feel too. The "Compact Disc" embossed logo is orientated wrong compared to the original. This goes for both the logo at the bottom and the top.
November 27, 2025 at 7:42 PM
Some more photos to see the quality of the disc itself. The "printable disc material" is very different from a real disc and misses the glossiness.

The Obi(gami or tasuki) . Is made of a "much" thicker material than original obis and is a bit more shiny (which you can't really see in the photos) . Apart from that, it is quite OK. #pcengine #aliexpress #repro

Biggest bummer is the disc it's just a CD-R with a home print. The original is shiny and the repro is dull. The colours in general are a bit darker… which is not that bad… but in some places it feels off like the spine and the inside of the cover #hudsonsoft is almost black instead of a dark blue.
November 27, 2025 at 7:09 PM
The repro looks quite ok. You can see the white plastic is still very new and shiny. But if you have seen lots of plastics, you can also recognize this type of plastic to be a very cheap kind? The colours look OK… a bit darker… losing a bit of detail. Or is my copy just a bit discoloured?

Got a #pcengine repro cd game from #aliexpress to see if it's any good so you don't need to. I chose Gate of Thunder because I got it recently and can compare the repro to the original. Keep an eye on this thread, if you want to find out. Will post comparison pics when I find the time. #hudsonsoft

Cardboard it is. Doesn't look as good, but serves it's purpose. Cut and folded it so it is a bit springy. Squashed it a bit so it was the right height but still pushes back a little. Let's play some Milon now.
November 24, 2025 at 8:23 PM
Have some styrofoam, cut it to the exact needed height. Perfect! It's soft, if it's a little too high it will give a little and rest at the perfect height exerting a little pressure on the board. I started cutting, styrofoam balls sticking to my skin... Oh wait.... static electricity... PPU poof!

It turn out the adapter board was not all the way in the socket that was soldered in place. Happily sharing my find to a friend who actually knows his shit, his 1st Q was: did you use round hole socket? Me: yes. He: throw them all away, this kind of shit happens with those all the time.
November 24, 2025 at 7:45 PM
Found the cause. The weight of the NESRGB+adapter board hanging causes it to glitch. If I push the NESRGB board while the screen is OK, it will start to glitch. So this has nothing to do with the wiring it seems (I pulled on the wires and it only glitched if I pull hard enough to mode the board).
