Got #Gitlab running from source well enough for some large subset of its unit tests to pass. I feel like I deserve a cookie.

Do I continue and see if I can build out something for those complicated CI automations that can otherwise only be debugged by repeatedly pushing to a real server?

If your `-h|--help` is so long I have to scroll to see the options I'll actually use, you need a `man` page. Or better yet, don't do it.

18F, the federal government’s technology shop, was just demolished by Musk’s team. It was a cost-recoverable org, charging agencies for their expertise, using a consulting model. Its cost to government was negligible, its benefits huge. My team there once saved DoD $500 million.

A thread about 18F:
18F is *precisely* what Musk and team claim should exist within government. But when his team found it, they destroyed it, because it is evidence that government works well (can’t have that!), and because like Zelensky, 18F didn’t bend the knee.

Sibling: I’ll get one of those “In Case I Die” workbooks …

Me: …and you’ll leave a series of riddles that will eventually lead the keenest of your surviving kin to it!

Sibling’s Lawyer: Please don’t do that.

I’m sad that #StarTrek #LowerDecks never got the chance to give us a “Family” style episode set in a vineyard and call it “The Balance of Terroir”.

My work notes had the phrase "Adrian Sampson: professor w/ a working skeleton" which made me wonder what exactly I was getting into on a Friday afternoon.

Considering the size and scope of Project 2025, the section devoted to CISA is miniscule — less than 400 words in all. But what that brief section proposes for the agency could have grave implications for the future of elections — and democracy. www.democracydocket.com/analysis/a-l...

$500 billion is staggering. CBO reports the deficit is supposed to be $1.9 trillion for 2025. This is a quarter of that.

For a technology everyone hates and that chronically under delivers.
President Trump is set to announce billions of dollars in private sector investment to build artificial intelligence infrastructure in the United States, in a joint venture with OpenAI, Softbank and Oracle called Stargate. www.cbsnews.com/news/trump-a...

Media literacy moment of the day: if a minor is publishing in traditional media outlets (magazines incl) this generally means their parents had the power/connections to make this happen for their kid, and the article should be taken with extreme skepticism at best.
Good parents don't let children publish BS like this: and if the child was really in trouble, they should have lifted her phone. Comparing TikTok to a serious addiction to drugs is just offensive.

a really weird thing about american social media right now is that a decade of conservative-driven hysteria about shadowbanning has set people up to not be able to, or simply unwilling to differentiate between ccp-level censorship and kafka-esque western content moderation

Why can’t I find a DisplayPort sink to MIPI-CSI2 breakout board anywhere? There’s tons of HDMI ones.

Even better if it had a USB-C connector and a way to connect to the USB 2.0 and provide power to the USB-PD. But I’m not getting my hopes up.
