This reminds me of the reaction conservatives have when gun control advocates push for regulations in the aftermath of mass shootings.

I’ll admit that this is constitutionally sticky issue, but you didn’t address the point. Do you acknowledge that speech FIRE protects may have played a role here?

...me for (gasp!) engaging in electoral politics. And I don't shame people for choosing not to, either, for whatever reasons they have.

I think online leftist keyboard warriorism cooks peoples' brains. I ask some earnest questions and get performative rudeness. Please go outside and touch grass.

This thread is a good example of why I generally don't engage in online political discourse. IRL, I try to use what little free time I have protesting, donating to Palestinian refugee aid, and converting my libdem boomer parents leftward. I'm engaged to a queer communist who doesn't shame...

I'm not trying to apologize or advocate for him at his point - if the tattoo and the Blackwater stuff makes him irredeemable then fine. I'm just trying to make sense of the situation. Help me out here.

...was, and unlike Fetterman he has been pro-Palestine for years.

The bigger question is, at what point do we consider someone irredeemable? It seems like he has bent over backwards to examine the uglier parts of his past and change into a better person. I don't buy the Fetterman comparison (PA resident here) - he is ideological in a way that Fetterman never...

Like, I'm trying to square his military background, the tattoo, and the Blackwater stuff with his Reddit history and his expressed opinions from the past 5+ years and it is big nonsensical mess.

Would someone please enlighten me as to what was said on Reddit that was racist/sexist? Actual quotes, please. What I have heard thus far from his Reddit history is woke by the standards of its day. The full picture thus far is totally contradictory and nonsensical.

Drudge just links to the Klippenstein article from last night. Does anyone have any additional info? Trump is signing EOs at 3PM ET but there’s no word on what they are about.

“An internet platform, website, or social media service that is accessible by a user in this state shall enforce such prohibitions uniformly across all users.” Would it effectively ban any service from hosting trans content across the entire US?

There is a bill in Michigan that defines online content featuring trans people, even if only in writing, as “prohibited material”. It also forbids platforms accessible in Michigan from “hosting, promotion, indexing, linking to, or access of prohibited material” legiscan.com/MI/text/HB49...
Michigan HB4938 | 2025-2026 | 103rd Legislature
Bill Text (2025-09-16) State: other; distribution of certain material; prohibit. Creates new act. [Bill Electronically Reproduced 09/11/2025]

This is good to know, thanks!

My partner and I are currently traveling abroad in a trans-friendly country and are scheduled to return on Monday. We’ve felt the need to use an existing connection to look for legal advice ahead of time because we are afraid of going through US Customs with this in the air. It’s just crazy
