Having grown up in military housing, I say that's a damn shame. Not as if a one time $1776 will make a huge difference in a family's life in the long run (although I know all too well had sometimes a windfall like that can pull you back from the brink)

2/ Imagine if those efforts had been directed toward serving the constituencies that sent them there, i.e. building on the ACA, revising its flaws, addressing the big bugaboo of costs, etc. These people are so far removed from the needs of the people they serve, the well-being of the citizenry
