Yeah I fully expected them to do a hook up montage, like showing texts with room numbers and knocking on various doors. There’s a way to convey hookups without showing them. I’m undecided about whether or not I like that change. I’ll have to see how the rest of the season plays out.

Oh for sure. So far it seems like the show is speed running the feelings aspect of the relationship, at least in terms of the on screen pacing. IIRC 5+ years have already passed in the first 2 eps but they’ve only hooked up 4 times (much less than the book) and they’re totally swoony for each other.

Yeah they said in one of their interviews this week that there’s a bit of a role reversal — irl Hudson is more like Ilya and Connor is more like Shane, which is actually very sweet

The value of the scene is in Ilya turning down Sasha, implying he’s not interested in random hookups anymore because of his growing feelings for Shane. Otherwise it was all exposition that could have been conveyed in other ways. Kudos for the media team teasing us though. Mission accomplished

Agree with all of this! I thought the waiting would make the sex more frantic and desperate, but it actually made it more tender because they’d developed an actual relationship during their time apart. It was like the lack of sex did a speedrun on their genuine feelings.

Right?! The show is the very definition of “intimate.” I talked with the intimacy coordinator super briefly at the Toronto screening. She said she was on set 90% of the time, which tracks given what we’ve seen so far.

At the Hollander lunch scene in particular, Hudson conveys SO MANY THOUGHTS with just his facial expressions. As a book reader I *know* what Shane is thinking, but I feel like it’s obvious for non-book readers too. 4/4

Right? I hate to say this, but this scene was kind of a let down. I’d been SO curious about it (because it’s not in the book) and had built it up so much in my mind, but then it turned out to be backstory with nothing happening. I’m GLAD nothing happened, but that’s not what I expected.

I fear there won’t be any “that’s so Ilya coded” accusations where Connor is concerned. He completely transformed into Ilya on screen, but off screen he’s sunshine personified.

HUDSON’S FACE!!!!! I told you I was worried that the characters’ inner thoughts wouldn’t be clear on screen (vs on the page when we know what they’re thinking) but Hudson tells a whole story with his face! He was SO impressive in Hollander lunch scene. I can’t stop thinking about it.
