SO MUCH FUN watching Zootopia 2 tonight. I'll admit, I was a little nervous it wasn't going to be as good as the first, but I had a blast. Can't wait to see it, like, 4 more times in theaters. (astronaut wolf rave pic is from the teaser trailer, no spoilers here! at least not for a week or so :)

November in the Moonwood

Construction update: we insulated the Living Room a few weeks ago, and just finished the air barrier and ceiling strapping. Next steps are ordering the drywall and building a new door frame for the south wall. It's finally warm in there! Cozy, even.

Spirits see it true,
And now the season's through,
The dark is coming into view.

It's an amazing thing to walk out into the garden and come back with lunch. There are few more intimate ways to foster your relationship with the place you live. And, yum.

Wow, what a mess! Before pictures of the exterior wall that's now an interior wall. All built with hand-driven 20d nails. Since this was taken, the doorway has moved, the wall reframed (with a supporting post for the ridge), most of the electric removed, and drywall installed on the other side.

Apparently, I'm not very sneaky shapeshifter... 🤔 🐺

I finished our new grape pergola (and swing) so we can sit and have a lovely view of the vegetable garden and path. All the logs are red maple from behind our house. Just need those grapes to grow so we can have shade!

First time making rose petal jam!

The only breaking news I need is what's the tasty stuff breaking ground in my garden.

I finished the air sealing details on the outside, structural wall and am now building the interior wall. Once that's done, I'll run electric, net it, and blow dense pack cellulose in the wall and ceiling. Should give me near r-60 in the ceiling and r-33 in the walls. 🧵

Building geekery ahead: The living room that connects both sides of the house is in-between a high performing, well insulated build and a "eh" build, so I'm matching the former details. Double wall construction, vapor open, and air barrier in-between the walls to prevent punctures. 🧵

Oh! If you're interested where the novel takes place, here is the map. There are a couple fictional towns, including "Hayfield," which is the focus of this novel.

Yay! Greens from the greenhouse and allium from the garden. It's sooooooo good to eat from the land again.

You know how firefighters used to ride on the tailboard or side of the engine? I see it in film or old pictures (like this one). It's iconic, right?
It doesn't happen anymore for big safety reasons. Safety is important!
(also, got to do it briefly a couple weeks ago. Not gonna lie, so much fun).

Meanwhile, in Marlboro, Vermont:
(in actuality, the Reformer got their original article wrong -- the third chicken escaped and was safe in their pen all along. I went inside and looked. No dead chicken! But what the hell. Makes for a good headline)

Also, THIS IS REALLY HAPPENING! We're about to get fiber! For 15+ years, we've relied on beaming internet from a neighbor, sharing 7mbps (on a good day) between 5+ folks because Consolidated has refused to upgrade infrastructure. No more! DVFIber is in town, and we'll be getting 100/100 for less $.

I haven't done much work on our living room lately (for a variety of reasons), but hopefully that's changing. Yesterday I got the air barrier up on the south exterior wall. I'll put an inch of continuous insulation over that, then the interior wall for a total of 10" of insulation. Ceiling next!
