After a couple of Adnams Broadsides I'm finishing the Sunday session on a Robbie's Old Tom. Best get this haggis plucked and in the oven now. Cheers 🍻

And in other #Caturday news, it's the 8th anniversary of Miss Lulu Furball's 'Gotcha Day'. She will be 10 years old in April 😺

Something warming for Beer O'Clock on a wet miserable day, Robbie's Ginger Tom.

And now Bob's giving me the big eyes and starving cat look as he knows I've got cheese n sausage with my beer 🙄🐈‍⬛

Cheers 🍻

Festive Friday Beer O'Clock. Kicking off with a fine pint of Twelve Days Porter from Hook Norton Brewery. Cheers 🍻

Lunch ready. Chicken and mixed roasted veg followed by apple and raspberry crumble tart. 😋

Which means it's Beer O'Clock on a lovely sunny day here. Bob's 🐈‍⬛ catching a few rays on the table. Today's #beer is another Adnams production for M&S, a Winter Ale 4.2% ABV. Very enjoyable.

Cheers 🍻

Sunday Session at The Wheatsheaf, Writtle. Low and behold they've got a cask of the new Boddies on sale. Didn't think we'd see it down here. It's okay. Can't say I'll have a second pint. Moved on to Mighty Oak's Captain Bob, a solid traditional bitter paired with Pigs in Blankets crisps. Cheers 🍻

#Caturday pic. Sid's nicked Liz's chair. Again. Bob is glued to the heated mat and Miss Lulu Furball is with all her toys. Been worth the long journey to give the boys a home and bring them all together over the past 11 months 😊 #adoptdontshop 🐈‍⬛😺🐈‍⬛

Beer O'Clock on a wet miserable day here in Essex. Something special then to brighten my mood 😊 This Fullers Brewery 180th Anniversary bottle conditioned Porter at 7%ABV fits the bill and is excellent 👌

Lots of chit chat about lowering ABV in beer vs Quality. First of all understand what alcohol adds to drink: Enhances flavour and character; complexity. Sweetness. Warmth. Body. Define quality: Not as easy as people think. Who judges quality? Consumer? Brewer? What is quality?

Good to visit the new Spoons in Basildon, Essex today. Very impressive I have to say. Separate area for pouring the drinks for table service with dedicated staff for just that, speeds things up greatly. Top notch cellar with triple level stillage for the Cask ales. I can see this as JDW's future. 🍻

Morning, another fine day for Cask Marque duties. Heading to Grays, Thurrock and Basildon.

And The Ale House, Chelmsford has announced dates for its Xmas Beer Festival 🙂🍻

Remembrance Day Beer O'Clock. Raising a glass to the fallen and my great grandfather, Albert Vigor, fought and wounded at Ypres in 1915.

My first taste of Fuller's 2025 Vintage Ale. A rich malty and fruitcake background with nice citrus/fruit notes on the nose. Very enjoyable. Cheers 🍻

I've been at the vets since 9.15 with poor Sid 🐈‍⬛. He's got a nasty abscess develop on his shoulder. Been in a fight 🙄

Hopefully all is now sorted, he's out of sedation and we're ready to go back home 🙂

After seeing many enjoying Old Tom Day I decided I would treat myself to a mixed case of Robinson's Old Tom and Ginger Tom to go in my Christmas beer stash. A stunning 8.5%ABV old ale first brewed in 1899. Rich complex flavours. Now being enjoyed with Bob 🐈‍⬛ who's after my pork pie! Cheers 🍻

Pleased with this image of the Bubble Nebula NGC7635. Sadly, I have now tried Comet Swan a couple of times now but never get much from it. Anyway, an enjoyable early evening session despite all the fireworks going off round here 🙂🔭

Beer O'Clock. Have to say this #beer has aged remarkably well under my stairs for the past 6 years. Touch of oxidation but complex and very enjoyable. Cheers 🍻

Good day for hunkering down with the papers, a decent roast lunch followed by apple crumble. Oh, and a fine beer of course. I've just pulled out my last bottle of Green Jack's Baltic Trader 2017 10.5% Export Stout for lunchtime today 😊

Out on duty for first time since leaving hospital last week. Good to see good pints 🍻 Congratulations to the team at The Travellers Joy, Rayleigh, Essex getting full points on their Beer Marque assessment today. It's not just cask ale that suffers from quality problems out in the trade sadly.

Today has been a good one with the Brewery History Society. Feel as though I've completed another part of my malting qualification after all these years. Come home to a fine beef & #beer casserole, with extra pearl barley to complete the day.

Big thanks to French and Jupps for their hospitality 😊🍻
