Good article about deposit return scheme in the Graun. Westminster forbids us from doing similar. How difficult is a glass bottle return scheme? I used to get 3d back on a pop bottle!

Best bit is the photo though. It's real, not AI. I want to move to Romania!

To reduce waste and save public money (as per Refuk policy), couldn't we skip the investigations and trials and go straight to the "You are an habitual offender...you will go to prison for 20 years" bit.

But interestingly, this from 1903. Queen Alexandra provided a slap-up Xmas dinner in London for 1500 widows and orphans of the South African Wars. (Aberystwith Observer 1 Jan 1903)

One particularly sad one was Emily Ada Pickford (née Pearn). She was 37 years old, from Penarth. A member of one of Lena Ashwell's Concert Parties, she died in Feb 1919 (after the Armistice) when the car in which she was a passenger skidded into the frozen River Somme on the way back from a concert

Armistice day.

One thing I hope we all learned from the commemorations in recent years, is that WW1 was about far more than young English lads dying in the mud of Flanders. They died in many countries - including Gaza - and came from around the world

And many women served and died too.

Right Reverend Host: "I'm afraid you've got a bad National Broadcaster, Mr Jones!"; The Curate: "Oh no, my Lord, I assure you! Parts of it are excellent!"

Radio 3, drama. But news & current affairs stink to high heaven.

One of the shops in our village used to sell dynamite.

Mind you, it was in the 1850's and was for the lead miners*.

I'm sure I've mentioned Fanny Burns, a prostitute living in Nelson St Cardiff in 1871. b. Gloucs 1848. Her housemates were described as a Milliner, a Laundress & a Dom. Servant. Interesting character: in court for pugilism in the street, drunkenness etc.In Merthyr Workhouse by 1877

After the gruelling campaign in Cerfilly, I do hope that nice Mr Putin will offer the gallant loser an all-expenses-paid month's holiday at one of his government dachas in Crimea to recuperate ready for next May.

We know that words mean what the editor wants them to mean in the right-wing media. Hence this use of "exclusive"

But how much of the equipment still in storage actually still works, or is close to working? How many of the units have been cannibalised for spare parts? How many have just rotted? We've seen photos of hundreds of rusting tanks without their turrets. Do those still count as part of the reserve?
