I really enjoyed working with a very well-motivated Yr4/5 school group today at Stories of Lynn and Lynn Museum!

The topic was the Second World War and they looked at many aspects of the conflict including, with myself, the role of the Royal Navy.

Love this Imperial War Museum film from December 1944 - including skating clerics in a line!

British soldiers filmed ice skating with Dutch civilians at Deurne, 27 December 1944.

You can find the full footage, shot by the Army Film and Photographic Unit, here: bit.ly/4b9KKf4

To the Immortal Memory!

Via the Nelson Society UK:

On this day in 1806 the body of Admiral Lord Nelson was carried by barge up the River Thames from Greenwich... before his funeral... at St Paul's Cathedral.

Today's topic at work at Ancient House Museum was the experience of British soldiers fighting on the Western Front over the Christmas season.

It was good to show my Princess Mary Christmas Fund tin to visitors again!

A good day!

I've finally finished restoring my, rather battered, 1925 pattern, British army Wolseley Helmet!

It took over a year before I plucked up the courage to fit the pagri/puggarree onto it!
