We have ours in terrible soil, growing among perennials. As a result, instead of us eating the tubers, the plants attempt to eat our wee yard every year. The flowers are such a burst of beautiful, tall, late season cheer, I really don't mind all the pulling necessary to corral them.

This cactus was a Christmas present last year, and I didn't know it would bloom so soon. I really needed this.
