Our Rani jumper for #NationalSweaterDay.

Relaxed, soft, easy to wear.

This sweater is knitted in extra-fine merino and has a complex, engineered 'pattern' – designed by Niela as a disrupted version of Fair Isle motif.

A lovely painting and the motifs in the jumper are so familiar to Shetlanders!

In Shetland, you still see very similar jumpers in the shops and being worn around the islands.
Today is #NationalSweaterDay so let's enjoy 'The Fair-Isle Jumper' painted by #Orkney-born artist Stanley Cursiter in 1923.

Stanley Cursiter (1887-1976) was Keeper of the National Galleries of Scotland from 1930-1948 and was appointed the King's Painter and Limner in Scotland.

Do read this, the ideas behind Shetland artist Susan Pearson's work are really interesting - as is her use of materials, which include clay collected in Shetland.

Annually, on the last Tuesday in January- if you’re late for work and use the excuse “a bunch of Vikings & a longship were holding up traffic” it is perfectly acceptable. 😉
🔥 Wishing Guizer Jarl Lynden Nicolson, his squad and all a brilliant Up Helly Aa 2026! 🔥

Today's #BirdOfTheDay theme is #swans.

I'm fortunate to have Whooper Swan present year-round beside my #Shetland island home. Their bugling calls and creaking wings are a regular sound overhead as they move between lochs.
