I think this might also be some kind of findom roleplay. There are layers to this

(Over/Under) just got invited to join a pyramid scheme. This is too much like real life

(Over/Under) The people have started a fight club. No idea how it works, I’m guessing people writing about the teeth they lost

Andrew Dice of Carpe Fulgur has passed. This is devastating. Not only did Recettear have a big impact on me, so too did their decision to found a company to translate indie games. It was incredible to see them go all in on their dreams like that. Respect to both of them. We’ll miss you Andrew.

The tech you can pull off in Silksong is unreal. Executing my first jitterkick (aka korean antigrav) was extremely gratifying.

I played the horror one a few years ago and I think there’s something to be said for how welcoming the aesthetics are, having character cards you just pick, etc. I think my problem with it is that even if you want a simple “roll and act out” sort of game, the rolls are all ability checks.

I’m going to be doing the mechanical part of the RE2 retrospective soon, then I’ll figure out whether to first finish up the big RE1 resource mgmt case study or the retrospectives for 3 and CV. I really scope creeped this project! Here’s a sample of the data I’ve been gathering for the case study.

Two of my favorite shots (and one of my favorite scenes) in cinema. From Jailhouse 41, the second Female Prisoner Scorpion movie.

Both Sherry and Ada give you one of your final objectives of the game, by the way. Leon and Claire both have to figure out a way to care for the injuries/infection of their associated partner character as one of their main goals in the lab.

Sherry on the other hand is a connection to and symbol of the people who are doomed to be tools of the powerful, even if they’re complicit:

Ada is in particular a stand out character and feels like a showcase of how much the dialogue and character writing has improved for RE2.

On the other hand there’s Barry, who brings some intrigue to Jill’s plot. Many of their interactions throw doubt on whether Barry is actually loyal to STARS, and there’s even a moment where the player’s personal decision to trust Barry will later affect his ending.
July 13, 2025 at 8:39 PM
So in RE1, we had Rebecca Chambers for Chris and Barry Burton for Jill. Rebecca’s deal was being a rookie who looked up to Chris, but routinely bailed him out with her specialist skills (medicine, chemistry).

As with RE1, Leon and Claire each get an NPC they collaborate with throughout their scenario. But RE2 builds on this idea in a way that I think creates a bit more emotional investment.
July 13, 2025 at 8:39 PM
But while the RE1 cast had trouble even with single zombies in narrow hallways, RE2 pits relatively ordinary people Leon and Claire against pretty big crowds — it’s not uncommon to fight 8 or 9 zombies on the same screen in RE2.
