What you're missing is that railroading involves offering the players an illusion of choice.

It is funtamentally a deception.

If you've been honest, and explain that the game is on rails, you're not deceiving them, you're not rail roading them.

Why waste what makes TTRPG so unique, you have other humans present, that you can bounce ideas off of, and take the story in unexpected directions?

Railroad plots make for great video games.

They don't work for TTRPGs, they discouraged Player creativity, and sets up the expectation that GMs are solely responsible for the story.
