Is This Thing On?: As probably noted elsewhere more a reflection of long term marriage than someones rise to comedy fame. I would say its bold in the last not being about a standout performance but in the relationship between Arnett and Dern. I enjoyed it a lot.

A new systematic review has found that trans women on HRT have the same level of fitness as cis women and don't retain any advantage in sports.

Rental Family: A sweet but not overly ambitious film. Person is recruited to be in people's lives, gets too close, minor consequences, their getting too close inproves everyone around them to be better. Exactly what the trailer told you.

We've spent ten years being proved right about all the things the loudest, biggest voices in the UK media insisted, often obnoxiously, we were wrong about. The real kicker is that there's no consolation whatsoever in being correct. Brexit, Putin, Johnson, Truss, Trump, Twitter, Netanyahu etc etc...

28 Years Later: The Bone Temple - Sometimes hard to watch for the torture gore but considering who they are invoking you have to make Jack O'Connell's character completely irredeemable. Fiennes humanist Ian is the core of the film and in one sequence clearly had a great time.

Sentimental Value: A masterclass in words unspoken in a film about a family having difficulty to communicate with one another. Also great in telling you what is correct but making you believe something else. Skarsgård really should be leading the pack on awards talk.

While there was so much to love about tonight’s Traitors - including some outstanding barrister-on-barrister action - I think the most perfect moment was a criminal barrister being rejected by his audience for giving a truly unpersuasive hammy speech.

Bro - we’ve all been there.

Right this year I'm going to try to keep up with short film reviews as I watch them. Still I have the ranking list 65 new films I watched last year. These are a reflection of my personal opinion not meant to be a definitive list. There is no such thing objective truth in art. Given Worst to Best.

This is why you should never even try to accommodate extremists; Watson went out of her way to avoid antagonising Rowling, and Rowling has blown up anyway, because Watson isn't and won't completely submit to Rowling's transphobia.

Forthcoming statutory guidance could have a profound impact on trans people's lives.

I've written to the Women and Equalities Minister to urge her to reject anything that undermines trans people's rights, inclusion, privacy or safety, and for Parliament to have proper oversight.

Legally, there isn't the slightest basis to the complaint, even on the most extreme possible interpretation of the Supreme Court judgement. A shop floor is not a single sex space, regardless of whether they sell bras or not. This is just hatred and spite, unleashed.
The employee asked the girl and her mother if they needed help shopping. That’s it. That’s all. The misinformation, the insinuations (because the facts are inconveniently benign) are EXACTLY what was done to lesbians in the 80s. This is the product of hate and fear, not reality.

Section 28 was an appalling piece of legislation that not LGBTQIA+ people not understanding who they were and those of who were not understanding who they were leading to a lack empathy. This more than wiffs of exactly the same problems.
We've moved from 'don't say gay' to 'ban trans'. But this time, it's the policy of a 'Labour' Government.
🆕🚨 New statutory Relationships and Sex Education guidance published today will:

- Restrict schools from using materials that "encourage pupils to question their gender"
- Teaches children the laws about "biological sex"
- Removes all references to the word transgender

I disagree this is worse than 2003 it was a charade but at least it had a pretense of due process.
The people of Iran have suffered under a brutal regime for far too long.

But a US President planning regime change in the Middle East feels like 2003 all over again. We’ve seen where that path leads and it does not end well.

Andor continues to be the most urgent and best iteration of Star Wars. I use to say it had little business other than being fun with slight political undertones and dark and gritty was not its vibe. But any sci-fi willing to THIS hard deserves every plaudit its getting.

Lots of very high profile UK biologists sign a letter saying that biological sex isn't binary or immutable and that the Supreme Court's ruling is scientifically wrong!

We really need to hammer home how the anti-trans side is anti-science

This is a mess we're going to have male presenting people legally having to use female spaces because they were assigned female at birth. I bet the TERFs will love that.

I suspect most will break the law but this shouldn't be the default on any LGBTQIA+ person just trying to live thier lives.
6/ It now seems legally defensible in the UK to exclude trans people from single-sex spaces under any circumstances 👇

I think Lewis gets pretty close to my thinking. This will embolden Transphobes much in the same way Brexit emboldened racists.
Parliament, not the Supreme Court should have decided today. I've written about why that's so problematic and why I fear today's judgment will be used to further delegitimise trans people, even though that is not what the Court intends.
