I'm in full support of the lack of US booze imports. Fully.

But American friends (who live down the road) brought me back a bottle of realllllly good bourbon last year and tonight I'm super glad I hadn't finished it. Nothing warms ya up better.

Spotify says I listened to a metric shit ton of Sharon Van Etten and film and medieval themed podcasts. Yes - that's why the Internet is still worth having.

Remember my tale of the roofer who scammed us? Well, court had finally ended. We won. Shane Collins of Getter Done Roofing not only scammed us with shoddy work he had no business or knowledge doing, but he also did not show for court. Please beware if you ever come across Shane.

The Valley is disgusting. Thankfully it's above zero but this (pouring) rain/snow combo is absolutely foul. Shoveling later is going to be a hoot.
The messy storm has heaviest snow (20+cm) over high ground inland NS; heavy rain along the coast. Strong NE winds: over 20K outages at 7am.
The wind & precip mix tapers off this am (aftn CB) then clearing.
Thurs starts fine then rain changes to snow. Strong NW winds & turning COLD & icy!.

I had to turn the Kiefer Christmas movie off. Maybe it picks up if I drink a lot more than I would on a Tuesday.

Certainly looks and sounds like you want to stay off the roads in the Valley. The timing of this thing was the worst.

Guilty as charged, but it was about emailing an executive director.
I've been in meetings where people debated "the nuclear option" and it was about issuing a mildly critical public statement.

I absolutely don't need to look at this so I will absolutely lose hours in there.
A blast from my past - the Medieval Soldier database takes nearly 300,000 military service records from 1369-1453 and makes them available as a searchable database.

An invaluable resource for understanding medieval warfare, society and the English medieval state. Learn more in the link. 🗃️
We built a database of 290,000 English medieval soldiers – here’s what it reveals
We created the database in order to challenge assumptions about the lack of professionalism of everyday soldiers.

This is worth reading but I want to add something I've recently been thinking about myself.

I'm 45. Had I had a computer in my pocket with SM attached (forget AI for a minute) I don't know the hell I'd have gotten thru university as a serious student who truly gave a shit.
An issue we're seeing at all levels of university is that many students are simply refusing to do *anything*. They aren't reading the syllabus, aren't following assignment guidelines, aren't engaging with material, ignoring deadlines. And this might seem like old news, but it truly has ramped up.

Today I was reminded, at the ripe age of 45, that what I assumed was tension with a friend is in my damn head and the best solution is to drink a bottle of wine and laugh it out.

These tributes are so sad and so joyous and what a loss.
Colleen Jones asked me to interview her a couple of months ago during a chemotherapy appointment.

She told me to write one heck of a story. I hope I did her proud.

About always believing something wonderful is about to happen.
