I told my doctor last year I felt off. She told me I was too young. I’m not though. I think my symptoms began before I was 40, but now…I think it’s real, and it’s fucking wild to me we’ve just let women white knuckle this stage of life. Goddamn.

Anyway, 16 days late, jumping from a 28 day cycle to a 43 day cycle, my period showed up. I’m feeling relieved. I realized I had been mourning? Maybe? The loss of a regular cycle. I have fibroids, my periods are miserable, I hate them. The absence of one, however, is fully unsettling.

I still felt like shit. Weird cramping, spotting, exhaustion, and depression. I can’t find joy in anything. Also can’t concentrate for shit, can’t sleep for shit, and during my small periods of sleep, holy shit, the night sweats.

I’ve been like clockwork forever. Last time I was this late I was pregnant, and that was 15 years ago. By the time that kid was 2 we decided no more and husband had a vasectomy that has been demonstrably successful up until now. 5 pregnancy tests later and i can confirm it’s ✨perimenopause✨
