"I watch all videos at 2x speed." And this is why you're incapable of understanding art and will only be able to consume "content" with a hunger that can never be satiated. People spend hours/days/weeks making videos and you can't even bother to actually watch them at normal speed?

There is literally a 20 year old West Wing episode about Molly Orchansky and exactly why the poverty line is a problem, and this is why it’s important to take humanities and the arts seriously. It is often oracular, because it’s written by research nerds with an obsession for human behavior.
This is an insightful but deeply upsetting article about why everyone in the US feels poor, and why the current political situation emerges as a direct result.

you just can't have a meaningful conversation about the potential benefits of "AI" while this stuff is happening. it's like trying to talk about how useful an airplane might be during a hijacking

As we are now T minus 3.5 days from Thanksgiving, if you need to deploy Operation Avoid The Boundary Tramplers, tonight is when you post where they snoop about a headache or a queasy kid, or a funny noise from your car, or your pet acting strange, or a serious work issue or an unexpected paper.

Random question - Do you think that being in such an algorithmic world these days that reinforces things we’re comfortable with so aggressively makes us less inclined to seek out or welcome or even engage with constructive criticism about our work or behavior as creators?

Truly don’t miss YouTube comments. I checked mine for the first time all week and saw someone accusing me of being incapable of love/not understanding how losing someone can impact you (on my Roger Rabbit video of all things???) 🙄

Cannot wait to see this on Sunday morning. Got my matinee ticket and will be there (unless I'm still sick. I would've gone yesterday if I wasn't still sick)
Brendan Fraser delivers an irresistibly charming and tender performance in ‘RENTAL FAMILY’, which saves it from being just another typical feel-good comedy.

Isn't "reward people for being healthy" bordering on, if not straight up, eugenics? That implies that the people who aren't healthy (due to genetics, bad luck, etc) should be punished for something they couldn't control?
Markwayne Mullin: "Reward people for being healthy. Think about this. Healthcare is the only industry that you're not rewarded for taking care of your responsibility. If you think about homeowners insurance, if you're within 500 feet of a fire hydrant, your insurance goes down."

The simple reality is that exchanging ten minute voice notes with my friends (when we don’t have a few to hop on the phone or catch up) and vent about life/gush about whatever movie or album we’re obsessed with does untold amounts of good for my brain.

People are so cool (except when they aren’t)

My health premium went from ~$350 to $700.
KEEP SHARING YOUR STORIES about increased ACA premiums due to the disappearance of subsidies. The stories clearly are having an impact, they help people feel less helpless, and they create solidarity that leads to action.

Mine went from $395→ $821. What happened for you?

Do people genuinely get angry when a review/analysis of something popular gives the story a brief (30 second) summary?

Asking because someone got really annoyed by it on a comment recently and I don't get why lol. It doesn't matter if most people know the thing being discussed; the summary is for—

🎥 It’s A Wonderful Life (1946) 🎥

Damn picture gets me every time 😭. Decided to watch it early this year for a much needed pick me up, and yes, I was in fact picked up.

Will probably rewatch it in a month and give the color version a shot since I’ve never actually watched it.

It is so telling that most of the AI productivity tools I've had shoved down my throat swear they're only taking away the boring/repetitive work and that thinking about that for more than ten seconds shows you that those tasks you're automating are almost always the fundamentals to learning a trade.

In other news, I'm off to go edit a one hour podcast where a couple of lawyers praise AI and had a one minute aside where they rip on people who still seek out physical media/VHS tapes 🙂

If only they knew one of those freaks are editing their show.
