a lot of people rubbish these (and they are right to – they are usually terrible) BUT its 30°C and 25% relative humidity, and its actually doing a good job (and i bought it for like $20 a few years ago for just these occasions, i would never spend more than that on an evaporative cooler)

also went for a ride on a sydney bus museum leyland opd2. one of the light bulbs is marked ‘NSWTD’ (new south wales tramway department?)

it breaks my heart when i see these sleeper cars. they’re younger than VIA Rail’s transcontinental budd cars! we could still have a proper sydney-melbourne night train!

the line seems to serve intermodal terminals and the port now – chemical plants and oil refineries are gone, and the kellogs factory isn’t served by rail anymore. the only rail-served industry left seems to be the veolia waste transfer terminal (located on what used to be botany yard)
