I can't believe what I'm about to share...
I've just accepted a tenure track position at MacEwan University in Edmonton where I'll join the Department of Humanities and work to build bridges between the humanities and the sciences.

My second cold season in Edmonton and it’s starting the same for me. Nov and Dec are the coldest. Although it’ll be -30s in Feb, walking to campus this morning in -10 was brutal. I don’t have my blood converted to propylene glycol yet. Holy fright. Jaw sore from teeth chattering. 🥶

I never appreciated Kuhn until I actually taught Phlogiston theory. It was a really good theory, confirmed by a wide range of experiments. It was internally consistent, too. If you want more than that the choice to adopt Lavoisier’s answer was a sociological choice, I feel you. I do too. But what?

I tell my students, "every time you use the tautology inference rule" you said "it is what it is" in a non-trivial way...
