That sucks. Keep looking. They do show up used. Any of those four would be great.

For that matter, the last gen v700 and v750 are excellent. Very little changed with the 800 series. I’m still using my old 750. Extremely capable scanner.

In case anyone was curious 😁
An awesome camera!

The distortion is glorious! I admire your tenacity in stitching those together!

I always forget how cool and well built the M6 is. As soon as I pick it up I’m ready to toss a roll in it and go!

That makes sense. I very seldom use a lens wide open. I’m more of an f8 or f11 kind of person.

That’s a cool present. The f5 was big money! I think I’ve seen pics of your 28-105 2.8. Pretty brilliant lens design. Surprised no one copied that.

I do like the f100 better than the f5. Alas… I’ve never had any love for the f4. And that is purely Nikon’s fault due to their shity first gen AF lens designs. No way I was giving up my beautiful AIS lenses for those plastic AF lenses with the thin focusing ring.

A shutter release would be nice. The winders work with a mechanical system instead of an electronic one. When you trip the shutter, you actually feel a little kickback from the winder engaging. It’s a little weird at first. I think the cylinder on the motor version is where the not-AA batteries go.

The winder M could have been more compact. Shaving a little height would have made it perfect. I’ve not used a motor M. Not sure how I feel about the cylinder component in front of the body. In a way, I feel like that makes it more bulky. The purists will tell me that M’s don’t need winders.

The P645 grip does come off. Not sure why.

Oh… forgot the Hasselblad ELM!

I have mixed feelings about the F5. It would be nice to be able to take the grip off sometimes.

Out of the bunch, the F2 is my favorite and gets the most use.

I have the Winder M. I know most people hate them. Probably why they’re the cheapest M accessory out there. But I love the way they make the camera feel. Especially for vertical shots.

My gripped/motored film cameras (off the top of my head:

Nikon F2
Nikon F3
Nikon F5
Nikon F100
Leica M6
Canon 1V HS
Hasselblad ELX 553
Pentax 645

That’s a lot of AA batteries!

I share your passion for all cameras with winders. Why would anyone not want one?

You have excellent taste 😉

I don’t know about the Duo Six, but there are a surprising number of nice Crowns and Speeds out in the world. They seem to hold up really well.

I would be slow to replace anything right now. I have multiples of my core cameras. A lot of things would have to break all at once before I got panicked.

1) Leica M6. Haven’t used it in a few years so it may not count.

2) Mamiya 7ii. Way too expensive now.

It would be easier to answer the question: what camera(s) would you immediately replace if broke today.

I’ve purchased a few things from them online. Never been to the store. Seems like a solid dealer 👍🏼

Clever use of different materials. How did you attach the brass to the PLA?

I haven’t thought of that exact same thing when working on a portrait. But I’ve for sure learned that if I want my subject to appear relaxed and natural, that starts with my mannerisms the moment we begin to work. It is possible to work quickly and efficiently without being frantic.

The idea of slowing down is something I work on all the time. Too often, we gage success by how fast, how many and how often we do things.

Are you suggesting that chemical engineers using data derived from extensive lab testing might be more effective in delivering good results than lore passed on from one YouTuber to another?
November 19, 2025 at 9:14 PM
I’d second D76/ID11 or HC110 as an excellent choice. I see so many people jumping around using different developer/film combos and never understanding why something worked or didn’t work as expected. It’s all just guess work at that point. Don’t get me started on “stand” development.
