I do genuinely worry they might vanish for a time. So every bit of genetic diversity counts!

A lot of the mixed color SILFs I've seen have looked really neat. So I'm eager to see what Yellow x Brown might result in. That aside, I really want this pairing to happen- because as i've stated in the past. Solomon Island Leaf Frogs are presently hard to come by in the US pet hobby.

To be upfront I wont be posting as frequently as usual because the holidays are a busy time.

Something I thought would be an issue would be finding a feeding cup holder... until I realized the cups stack neatly. So I simply decided to use a feeding cup as the holder, and siliconed it directly to the background.

I plan on raising this batch to adulthood and retaining a female or two for breeding. Since I fortunately have an unrelated male to pair them with. With how rare SILFs are in the hobby right now. Every clutch of babies matters so much!

All it takes to set them off is to hear a rival. I've found that playing back recordings can get them calling even during the day, and can help encourage egg laying if it has been a while since the last clutch (though I prefer to be hands off and save that as a last resort).

As I have 3 males in my care. I often hear my boys 'bouncing' calls off of one another. A discordant and disorganized orchestra of beeps and 'wahs!'. As heard in this video. All that said, a second male is not technically required to stoke a leaf frog's competitive spirit.

Like many frogs, male SILFs are competitive callers. When one male sings, any others in earshot will respond with their own song. All in hopes that they will be the one chosen by a listening female.

All male frogs are vocal when conditions are right for breeding. For the Solomon Island Leaf Frog. The only requirement is that it is dark out. Which is to say that every night I am treated to their distinct call. "wah-wah-wah!" Now so familiar to me that a silent night would feel wrong.
