Happy caturday and thank goodness for a slow morning drinking coffee and hanging out with the gremlins. The gremlin who isn’t pictured is busy chasing a toy. ❤️

Once we get this far into the semester and the concerts/recitals are starting to happen every weekend, these weekends just aren’t long enough. ☕️ ☕️ ☕️

Last night was the first composition departmental recital of the year and I couldn't be more proud of these students. Each piece was its own unique gem and the performers put such care in bringing the works to life. These recitals are truly one of the best parts of the job, always. ❤️

Seeing the east wing of the White House being demolished has upset me more than I truly would have expected. All that history destroyed with our tax dollars and without our say. Unreal.

NYTimes has an editorial today about playing to the center. After covering the protests for all of a split second. I’m tired of this handwringing over “center” versus “left.” The No Kings coalition spans center to far left and is about values - human dignity being paramount. That’s the play.

Just saw a performer post a screenshot of a composer’s work to make fun of a notation mistake. You know what you absolutely don’t have to do? That.

Am I missing something or is it less than 24 hours after the protests began yesterday and the NYTimes is already burying the story? I don't see it anywhere in today's online scroll.

Putting aside for a moment the dubious quality of AI products, it’s wild that so many articles that say “AI can do x; what will happen to the people who do x???” seem to assume, in a capitalist fashion, that the final product is all that matters, ignoring the joy found in human agency.

I bet money it won’t just be IU. Academia is losing its way.
They're trying to prevent the student newspaper from printing news, period. Not just a particular story.

"The Media School directed us to print no news in the paper... nothing but information about homecoming — no other news at all, and particularly no traditional front page news coverage."
Indiana University has fired the staff director of the student newspaper, after disputes in which university leadership tried to pressure him to prevent students from publishing news.
