Huh. I haven't played Outer Wilds, just Obra Dinn, but this is the first time I've heard them compared like this. From what little I know of Outer Wilds, I can't even imagine making such a comparison.

I mean, it makes sense if it's an AP that's gonna be posted/streamed somewhere and all that. But if someone's insisting on 'auditions' for a private game (as opposed to a simple getting-to-know-you chat before you start), yeah, screw that noise, that's gatekeeping snobbery.

I don't know when it started, but I think it's part of an attempt to 'legitimize' APs as something you can do as a job, and use them as a jumping-off point into more consistent acting work.

I've played in a *great* many offline games over the years where we had to tell people these same things over and over, almost verbatim.
