Hello all, I’m mystic, I am a 21 year old non binary writer and artist who loves dnd and fantasy. I love to chat with anyone and am always open to Dm, this is also a queer and lgbtq+ friendly space. A wizard in my time off. Pookie is @yonevea.bsky.social 💕
Definitely a fun coincidence, it’s an uncommon name, but I think it’s a very strong one

lol well I’m not sure they would get along, my Rettick is evil in a way that is pretty hard to get along with 😂

My favorite answer to the question of “what can magic do?” Is the simple answer of “not everything” it’s a tool that isn’t always the answer.

It helps the magic feel real and have weight but also keeps it from feeling like a Skyrim skill tree.

I like this approach, I like magic complex magic systems and all of that. But my favorite storylines are often when the magical character can’t use their magic to save the day. Or where their magic won’t help them and they have to rely on their other skills.

There are also magic gems that are unique to my setting that work as nearly infinite sources of power, only limited in the amount that can be pulled from them at a time which is related to the gems size.

These gems are like deadly radioactive tho 💀

Yup and different gems last longer than others, with diamonds being unique as they can store magic in them like a reusable battery that can be charged.

Diamonds also can be used to suck out magic radiation and be used to heal, with pearls being a substitute that don’t last as long.

YES that is my favorite thing ever, and having people in the world be intimidated by the things we find silly.

Here is my main villain Rettick and you can see how silly his outfit is. But he is terrifying in practice.

Making you forget, a little, how goofy his hat is.

So wizards are wearing big flowing robes and big tall hats with silly curly shoes. With huge beards and decked out in gold and jewels….. all for tactical reasons.

It’s also customary for wizards to wear stars on their robes to show that they are traveling.

I’ve justified the classic wizard drip

Big beards and big hanging sleeves can also help to disperse magic better.

And wizard utilize jewelry and gems to harness more magical energy.

In my world all real world gems have magic associations and can be used to draw magic from, slowly draining the gems color and toughness.

Mages also will wear heavy robes lined with a lead fabric to protect from the recoil radiation from their own spells.

As well as curly toed shoes and big pointy wide hats in order to help the magic leaving their body be directed away from their body, the hats and shoes having wire to pull the magic

With tech in the other hand wizards utilize many different items to keep their spells under control and power them up.

Mages need staves and wands to focus magic safely out of the body

While magic can only be harnessed through organic materials, gold also amplifies magic greatly as well as copper

And as for tech and medicine you are very right. Mages can use potions and medicine to increase their own magical tolerance and to help heal from magical sickness.

One common medicine being a purifying potion that you drink and acts like charcoal and absorbs magic from inside your body.

I like where your head is at, and yes there are magic berserkers, they are called chandlers and instead of using spells they usually just pull magic in and hold it there, using the energy to make themselves strong and fast, but inevitably causing them to explode if killed lol, it’s called wild magic

And the recoil is pretty exponential, with it increasing rapidly as the force of the spell increases.

Even magic like charming magic recoiling into the mind of the caster which can cause a variety of issues.
November 24, 2025 at 5:44 PM
Launching an armored knight 30 feet strait up and letting them drop usually ends the fight.

Only issue is that all magic has recoil so the amount you push or pull something will also push or pull you as well with a fraction of the force.

Push 10 feet, get pushed back a foot yourself in return.

In my system magic is a pretty complex form of energy that falls into 13 main categories (mostly).

But the most common type of magic you see used is kinetic magic, which is simply using magic to push and pull things.

Mages use it in battle to shove and throw enemies which usually works pretty well
