The Unmapping is about human reaction to catastrophe. It features messy characters cutting in and out of the narrative, moving in a way that mimics the world shifting around them.

I hope you get so much out of this story.

I went into finding a first book for Mareas knowing I wanted a story that, love it or hate it, would make people think. I found a literary speculative novel about complicated humans experiencing chaos as the world shifts around them.

Three days left until The Unmapping

I’VE GOT A BOOK FOR YOUR SUMMER READING LIST!

The Unmapping is a literary speculative novel about a city rearranging itself every day and how humans respond to chaos. It’s a story built with a patchwork of POVs and a deep understanding of humanity. Out 6/3.

I got these enamel pins made for Mareas and The Unmapping. The plan is to send perk packages to my members every season, and they’ll get to collect pins for each release.

I also crocheted two styles of bookmarks for every one and got stickers of our most used custom emojis in our Discord. 💕 🌱

I’m afraid I haven’t seen enough commotion for Orange Wine 😔 Coming out this Latine Heritage Month, Orange Wine is steeped in the weight of inheritance and told with a bittersweet distance like the stories passed down from our elders.

The Unmapping:
🏢 Speculative fiction more concerned with the what now? than the why?
🏢 Tapestries of chatty POVs
🏢 Complex characters making difficult choices while the world refuses to stay still
🏢 A cult? In this economy?
🏢 A book that feels very human and a bit alien

So happy to share that THE UNMAPPING by Denise S. Robbins, the first book being published by my imprint, will also be available as an audiobook narrated by the one and only Julia Whelan! 🎧🥰

Orange Wine, my second acquisition, is on NetGalley! A sensuous story of love, betrayal, and self-discovery in early 20th-century Colombia. If you love Ferrante & Allende, this one’s for you. I fell hard for this book and can’t wait for you all to experience it. 🍊 www.netgalley.com/catalog/book...

Last week, I saw some lady arguing that audiobooks weren’t real reading, but the thing that SENT me was that she was using ChatGPT to prove her point.

Anyway, I wrote a post about why I think some people are SO PRESSED about audiobooks.

3/36: Shred Sisters - A punchy, emotional read about the fierce, messy bond between sisters, mental health, and self-acceptance. Well-written and impactful, but sad and stressful. Great for fans of disaster girl, character-driven stories.

2/36: A House With Good Bones - A creepy, funny Southern Gothic where family secrets and bad vibes collide. I loved the voice of the main character, the unsettling imagery, and how humor balanced the horror. The ending was a bit neat, but the journey was engaging enough to make up for it.

1/36: Strange Beasts – Dracula’s daughter teams up with Moriarty’s daughter to solve murders in a romp through historical Paris. The world, plot and motivations are best taken at face value, but the gothic atmosphere and character dynamics make it enjoyable.

Each person in New York wakes up on an unfamiliar block after its buildings rearrange overnight. The power grid has snapped, thousands of residents are missing, and the Empire State Building is on Coney Island—for now. The next night, it happens again. #booksky

If you could give any book its moment in the Bluesky, what would it be?

Me? The Spear Cuts Through Water—a breathtaking, multi-layered tale of two men, a dying god, and a fractured land told with unmatched depth and stunning originality. A love story “down to the blade-dented bone.”

I’m actively searching for submissions from Black authors for Mareas! If you're writing literary sci-fi, fantasy, magical realism, or anything that blends genres with bold, resonant themes, I want to read it. Your work deserves a champion, and I can be that person! #booksky #authorsky
