For me, before we get to ethical concerns, there’s the many commercial concerns: AI-gen work can’t be copyrighted; ppl using these tools still don’t know WGLL; that content slop is clogging every review pipeline, from resumes to portfolios to pitches to retail; that AI is now cannibalizing itself…

I mean, that is their prerogative. There are people who feel very strongly abt GenAI of any kind, so if it’s a moral issue for them, then they’ve no obligation to engage…

No harm, no foul. I just don’t want caution to be misinterpreted as fear.

The vast number of mainstream AI conversations are related to creating content out of thin air and calling it Art, not workflow efficiency. Which is what this article is pretending is feasible or even good.

It’s a poor understanding of the tech and very much solution-in-search-of-a-problem.

Sure, I mean the “vilification” is a different conversation tho. I think it’s fair to ask questions of our technology. It may be inconvenient, but failing to wrestle w the ethical implications of new tech is how we get datasets reenforcing Euro beauty standards or Microsoft bots reciting M*in K*mpf.

Yeah, it’s a craaaazy competitive job market right now. And it’s just getting more and more seemingly competitive as folks (wrongly) assume that AI is going to somehow streamline all this lookdev stuff.

The amount of AI slop out there is clogging every art-related intake from hiring to pitching.

But there’s a huuuge difference between automation of content creation and automation of art direction. And these pipe dream articles conflate the two.

Lol I literally work in emerging tech.

Even using tools as tools doesn’t eschew the need for expertise. Sooo many people are trying to use current AI tech as replacement, and real talk, without understanding the fundamentals of what makes good art GOOD, the gap between the skilled and the layperson will simply continue to grow.

It looks real not-good.

(I hope folks catch the little bit of sarcasm here. For context, I have to imagine a “major prize” on the Boardwalk is like a bargain bin in a dollar store. 🤣)

Same! I was REEEALLY hoping Threads would catch on. There’s a small indie community there, but most gamedev folks are either here or still on Xwitter, raging against the dying of the light.
