HG GQuuuuuuX
Completed 2025-11-28

Had an incident with the head crest where it broke into four (!) different pieces in my hands, I'm happy that I was able to fix it but still not quite looking how I'd like. Other than that pretty impressive for an HG, not TOO many color correcting stickers.

Decals and topcoat done. Might've been easier to just use the stickers for the decals on the leg bits that 'wrap around', but I toughed it out for practice.

It's way too cold in my airbrushing area right now, not sure if that will affect GX114 drying but took it downstairs to cure just in case.

HGs really come together quickly, no incidents after the issue with the head. Was hoping having water decals would let me avoid stickers but there's still quite a few I needed to use. Just regular decals left now, though.

I want to do 3 different Wing kits next, 2 MGs and an RG. I figured to stay consistent with what I did on the Tallgeese a while back I'll paint all the yellow bits the same shade of gold - might as well do it all at once, since it's a multi-day process and not that many parts.

Well, shit...my first thought was Panel Liner Incident™, but some of the parts that broke weren't near any of it. So it was probably just my ham hands. Either way, Tamiya Extra Thin fixed it, should look fine on display. I was very, very careful cleaning up the rest of that liner afterwards though.

Been recovering from some surgery the past few weeks making it difficult to do things like crawl under my desk to find gunpla pieces I inevitably drop on the floor. But I'm ready to get back into it now. Wanted to start with something light, plus the build just looks like it'll be a fun one.

A big draw here for me was how much extra stuff it comes with. That poor Action Base 4 could barely handle it though, it's heavier than it looks - lots going on inside. Also comes with a spare Core Fighter.

"Fat Cat" 1/100 RG RX-78-2
Completed 2025-10-21

Some of those joints were so tight my thumbs were sore for days afterwards. That kind of works in its favor in the end though - it's an absolute joy to pose. Kind of did my own thing with the decals since the MG Origin ones I had didn't quite fit.

First game that came to mind was Garou: Mark of the Wolves

Been kinda absorbed in Hades 2 but I found some time to work on the decals. The ones I have, I bought for the MG Origin Gundam but I ended up getting the Fat Cat instead. I was surprised how incompatible the decals are, the RG design is very different. So I'm just doing whatever I think looks cool.

Yep, that's exactly what it is. There are hobby branded ones but seems like pretty much the same thing, might as well save the money.

And that's all the building. It comes with an absurd amount of accessories which is definitely a selling point, do think it's funny the hammer chain is just a metal chain too. Up next are decals - going to use some Delpi ones I got for the MG Origin I originally planned to buy instead.

Lots of progress, and the mechanisms of this thing are very cool, but man these joints (similar to the ones above) are really tough to assemble. I had to throw in the towel for the night because my thumbs were too worn out to continue.

Well that's a new one. There's one piece on the arms that is so hard to push in they have a separate piece whose sole function is to force it in there. I was super confused what the manual was telling me to do here at first.

One more bonus:

Just realized it was actually 1 year ago today since I built my first model. I've come a long way but still plenty more to learn - the model show I visited today was definitely both humbling and inspiring.

Had to take a video of this one to get across the little fire burning effect in the crashed TIE Fighter.

And some non-Gundam stuff. The sandcrawler was absolutely massive.

Really liked this Z'Gok diorama but it was kinda crowded and I couldn't get a great picture of it. The streetlights, launcher vehicle and its eye were wired up with LEDs.

Stopped by the Torcan model show today, figured I'd post some of the cool stuff I saw there. The vast majority of the floor was dedicated to things like military and car models but there was a decent amount of gunpla and other mecha.

Doing some color testing as I'm thinking I'll start this next, once I'm done my current model. Left to right are Mr. Color 44 (tan) on white, grey and pink primer. Looks like white is what I'm going for but I was super curious how the pink would turn out.

the 94 TV is the most iconic one to me, yeah
