Mario 40th was a wash, most of Nintendo's 1st-party output has been "eh" to "godawful" (though Bananza IS an all-time great!), post-launch support for games has been questionable at best (see Bananza *AND* MKW), stuff is being carved out of games & tucked behind expensive Amiibo as prices rise, etc.

I guess we’ve reached a point where a corporate marketing department should be commended for its obvious Photoshopping of a bunch of greasy faces onto a bunch of greasy bodies rather than resorting entirely to AI.

The crazy thing about coming back to games after a 5 year break was seeing how the entire industry had become internationally-minded thanks to the Playstation, and the shift in EGM to a more professional/global perspective (even if it was also trying to be a lad mag at the same) was fascinating.

It’s funny to hear one of the EGM old-timers complain about the Ziff-Davis/Bay Area version of the magazine being “too corporate”, while his earlier era of the magazine - which I loved at the time - was maybe a little too slapdash for its own good.
