Great white sharks can jump higher than the average house. This is because of powerful muscles, a sleek fusiform shape, and the fact that most houses cannot jump.

Three days till my PhD defense. I feel like I know nothing.
Should I read papers till the very last day, or just say fuk it and bake cookies?

I am excited to be defending in 10 days 🤩.

I also made the mistake of googling "amazing PhD slidedeck." Mine looks like crap.

Should I revamp my slide deck that I made 2 months ago 🥹🥹🥹? #ImposterSyndrome

If a grant says "we cannot cover travel expsenses," don't ask us for travel expenses. If a grant says "we cannot cover salary, this is only to pay for research equipment and lab fees," don't ask us for salary.

If a grant says "this is for tuna research only," don't ask us to fund work on other fish

Interesting paper from J Pritchard's lab:

"GWAS variants differ from eQTL variants along many axes…GWAS hits are biased toward more constrained genes…with complex regulatory landscapes…eQTLs show strong promoter bias largely absent from GWAS hits"

This study seeks to explain the poor overlap of genome-wide association study and cis-expression quantitative trait locus variants using a model of differential selective constraint, suggesting that t...

So excited to see this out! Tsz Fung developed a model to estimate heritability in complex traits from admixture mapping summary statistics, in a way that adjusts for latent population structure. Please check it out! 🧬 🧬💻

I have been having a lot of fun revising private allele analysis in #Stacks from #RADseq data. What are private alleles? Given SNPs in a set of populations, a private allele is found only in a specific population. 1/n
