On the other hand - freezing rail fares is good news!

Our polling found that the cost of trains is a huge driver in dissatisfaction with transport in Britain (www.ippr.org/articles/eve...)

Same for freezing the bus fare cap - good cut-through & makes a meaningful difference for people

The fuel duty freeze, in place for over a decade, is coming to an end (although I suspect lots in the sector will only believe this when they see it...)

This might act to counter-balance the mixed messaging on EVs, especially since fuel duty will go up before the tax on EVs comes in

The sector has said for ages that something will need to be done on EV taxes (inc us), but there is a real risk this drives down uptake - which is an issue since electrification of the fleet is key reducing transport emissions

🍃Environmental regeneration scheme - not loads of detail, but in theory, this might help get developments off the ground that are currently held up in the planning system due to poor water/environmental quality in their area

We called for the Environment Agency to be properly resourced & funded in our paper this year - as years of austerity have meant regulators have reduced capacity & the planning system catches the flak - better funded regulators will be key to getting building!
