Ok. In this spirit, and for new followers here: @chrisbaker108.bsky.social and I do this thing, every day. We make a slide to be shared in tutor time. It’s a thing that can fill a few minutes. Broaden minds to interesting things and amazing people. bit.ly/TutorGroupThink

I've turned this into a PowerPoint and added more news stories from the summer.
The articles are in Word documents that can be printed 2-Up and double-sided to fit on one side of A4 😊

In #CoreMaths I like to start the year with a lesson on using news articles to do some estimation or data calculations, to get the students talking and thinking about "real world" maths. Here are some recent news stories that I'm planning on using this year:

New! A post that summarises some of the developments, trends and resources for maths teachers from the past year.

Kind of like a mega-gems-catch-up post to make sure everyone is up-to-date. 💎

Do your pupils work hard enough?
Let's indulge in two thought experiments. Scenario 1. Imagine you have no data about a class you start to teach in September. You have no knowledge about their prior attainment and no knowledge about ...

@mrmetacognition: metacognition is a catch all, backed by research that has a positive impact on learning for all - helps problem solving skills, skill transference, revision effectiveness and covers all areas. So why wouldn’t you want to develop it with learners?! #mathsconfonline

Dr Frost resources are, to me, about great maths questions and explanations and examples and checks for understanding and tasks and exercises and discussion prompts in great curriculum sequences.
PowerPoint is just a way of sharing those things, either with teachers or with students.

Going to open my bsky posting with a happy #coremaths post. Moved to a one year course this year. Our y12 students got excellent results and we had twice as many of them! Next year have an extra class too. Very glad we made the change for the students.
