Kalamazoo, Michigan, journalist. Bike pedaler. I ride bikes far, I pet our kitties hard, I drink coffee like in those '80s Coffee Achiever commercials.

I cover housing, culture, bikes, road infrastructure, environment, a hodgepodge, secondwavemedia.com
So we were watching Safari Live, and the guide was talking about how thick elephant skin is. But then he's saying that elephants "hate bees." I was talking to Van Peanuts here, asking why this could be? Do elephants really hate bees? He told me, "Please stop talking to me."

Why did people get so excited about sticking two wheels under your crotch?

I have this as my desktop image, to remind me that, as a journalist, I should be that pest. If you have that nagging one-more-question, ask it!

We were about to embark on a New Orleans vacation morning after the election. So, no sleep, a lot of drinking in an airport bar, more than we usually do at 7 am. Lot of drinking in NOLA, but that was normal. Rode bike into City Park, abandoned spot with graffiti and creepy art. Photo captures mood:

Tern Link D8. Got it for train travel, found myself riding it and not my "normal" bike for fun.

Do you know how hot it gets inside of those suits? There was some sun, it was warm, above 70. If you see an inflatable creature you better salute and say "THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE."

Wife's night blooming cereus. As the sun sets, it blooms. Time lapse not quite perfect, because it's not focused just right on the bloom. Camera moves as I try to tap the iphone to focus.

Pedaled a bike to Chicago from Michigan, then spent the weekend exploring, on a bike. No one murdered me. There were a couple attempted murders by drivers trying to use the bike lane as a turn lane, but I slapped their hoods and they stopped.

I pedaled from my home in southwest Michigan just to pedal around Chicago for a weekend. three and a half stars out of four. Photos of June Critical Mass.

Team Tern! Anyway, it's not a competition, all foldies are swell. But I just got my first, for specific train trip use, and I can't stop riding it for regular rides. I weirdly go about 1 mph faster on average than my usual bike.
