OPHANIM אוֹפַנִּים (Optical Photon and Antimatter Imager) is a 3800 megapixel camera used in the AEgIS αἰγίς high-energy physics project at CERN. In this blog post The Owlet of Minerva tries to pick apart the scientific, biblical Hebrew, medieval European and Buddhist iconography of the instrument.

I just finished the Duolingo Mandarin to Cantonese course.

I am a little annoyed that there wasn’t a nice achievement screen to screenshot and share.

Wonder what to do next, Glossika, perhaps? I’m still far from being able to handle native content like movies and podcasts.

Apparently Tom Lehrer survived his obituarist.
The byline for the New York Times obituary for Tom Lehrer says: "Richard Severo, a New York Times reporter from 1968 to 2006, died in 2023. Alex Traub contributed reporting."

Yikes.
A search result for Saul Alinsky's 'Rules for Radicals' from Amazon's Kindle store. The first result is Alinsky but the following are: "Rules for Radicals Defeated: A Practical Guide for Defeating Obama", "Rules for ANTI-Radicals: A Practical Handbook for Defeating Leftism" and "New Rules for Radicals: TNT for Faith-Based Leaders". The list just goes on and on with conservative takes on "Rules for Radicals".

My first little Book of Songs:

The YouTube subtitles of The Long Season referred to the main character as “vigilante” which struck me as not very appropriate in the context. (I don’t recall the Chinese term used though).

Perhaps people are using cc-cedict and just lazily picking the first meaning listed.
