Well, it's time. I'm releasing my tool that lets you aggregate patch and update status of hosts over ssh on unix-like systems.

The github repository has details as well as links to the exhaustive documentation.

It is my hope that at least another person […]

More new features in https://arewedecentralizedyet.online/ because apparently this is what I do for fun now.

There's a 'details' flippy thing (or 'disclosure triangle', if you prefer to live a joyless existence) that lists the sites that are contributing the […]

Testing out PLA-CF filament for a specific application where I'd need the strength rather than the flex, and did the Obligatory Calicat to test

Wow, the finish on this is absurdly good.

A minor network nerd thing that has been sad to observe for the past few years has been to watch ISC bind and dhcp's long fall into decrepitude, with modern alternatives barely supporting the wealth of functionality they had.

(Except for unbound, unbound is great if what you need is a very […]

["Forkiverse" stuff]

The whole "forkiverse" thing is interesting. It's just a Mastodon instance that was spun up for a specific community that all moved in at once, but presented as its own social network for them. Which it kind of is. Which all instances very technically kind of are.

It's […]

I've released version 2.2.0 of Exosphere, my patch reporting program for remote UNIX systems.

It contains support for SSH connection pipelining, with associated tools to manage their state, as well as an exhaustive polish pass.

Multiple internal systems have been refactored to be much cleaner […]

I moved my 3D printer to the new bench where I did the super long that does resonant frequency cancelling stuff and generates a cacophony on fun noises for 20 minutes.

At least my test CaliCat is printing quietly. Look at him, he's up to mischief, once his ears come in.

Is there a long german compound word for that moment during a 4-5am incident while on call while everything is down, but it becomes strangely calm as you stare at nothing, and escalations happen?

I moved some bookshelves in my office after setting up the new workbench, maybe like, 20cm to the right.

This was enough to discover a whole ass, unused set of power outlets that was just there, unused, the whole time.

I have been running fire hazard extension cords around the room for over […]

If you're old enough to remember when pressing up arrow in your shell wouldn't do readline history but instead either print the literal escape code or worse, print it but also interpret it, moving your caret one line up with disastrous results, you should probably get a doctor appointment for a […]

Assembling my new workbench at the last minute on the last day of vacation while despairing, as is tradition.

I went out to buy tools because I'm coming to terms with how I am definitely Dad Aged enough to own at least a ratchet set.

I'm in the process of moving a workbench into my office, which involves moving out a bunch of stuff into temporary places because their final destination is already occupied by other stuff temporarily put there from the lab.

To ease the "will this even look good there" anxiety, I used […]

I'm getting better at Grafana. Turns out the issue is really not having nicely labeled metrics more than the inherent difficulty of promql/metricsql queries.

You inevitably end up with like 6 different exporters on some systems that you split in jobs due to various differences in refresh or […]

And yes, this is once again critiquing Dash's whole "I trained this model myself from open weights." That's fine-tuning. You didn't "train it yourself," you took a model someone gave you *in its compiled form* and tweaked it. Unless you have provenance for all the training data that went into it […]
