"mockup" is a fun word
A mock-up of the concept in the post. Above this. A pair of shears have been sketched on the left side of a long strip of patched together white paper. It is 2/3 cut out, edges have been folded down to create a 3d effect, and a thin ribbon of red construction paper is looped through the open blades. The red construction paper ribbon leads to the right side of the page where you see it is coming out of the bottom of a sketched and, same as the shears, 2/3 cut out folded cassette tape. Behind the holes where the items have been cut away from the white paper you can see red construction paper peeking through.

You are looking at a piece of white paper with blue grid lines. A very rough pencil sketch in the center of the page shows what I can assure you are two sheets of paper, one facing up toward the other, which is suspended a short distance above and facing down toward the first. From the suspended paper is a sketch of shears, partially cut out and curling down toward the other page. From the paper laid flat is a rectangle with two little circles (it's an extremely rudimentary audio cassette tape), also cut halfway out with the freed end of the cassette curling up toward the page above. A ribbon of tape runs out of the cassette and loops over the lower blade of the shears.

Two of my kids are making a book together, youngest is writing while eldest child illustrates, it's the best thing I've ever seen, here's Ham the Pink Turtle Frog as a cult leader.
